Ovarian Cyst Advice

Hi All,

I am 20 years old and have several problems with my reproduction organs and bladder. On Thursday me and my partner had interiors and it really hurt a lot. So we stopped. Since then I had a period pain cramping feeling. On Saturday I was sent home from my night shift because I was in that much pain I could not stand up straight. So I went to A and E on Sunday morning. After having both internal and external ultrasound I was diagnosed with having a ruptured Ovarian Cyst (left side) I am amazing how much pain a little cyst can cause. I was sent home with some strong pain killers. 2 days later I am still in pain. I was just wondering whether anyone else experiences more pain when their bladder is emptied? Also I haven't opened my bowels since Saturday so it has been 4 days I didn't know whether that is normal? I have never had a cyst before and could do with some advice. Sorry about the long post 😀

    Rebecca,

Pain killers tend to slow and/or stop activity in the intestines. Get a good laxative to get things moving again.

Depending on how big the cyst was it could dump quite a bit into your abdomen. There's no way to tell how large it was at this point. It takes a while for the body to absorb the fluid. It irritates untill all is healed. Could they tell if it is still actively bleeding?

Hi, okay that's a point I didn't think about the pain killers. It's been hurting to cough so as you can imagine being constipated as well has not helped anything. They couldn't tell me whether it was still bleeding, when they did the scan. I don't know whether you know whether this cyst may make me more susceptible to more cysts in the future? I have always had problems with really heavy and painful periods. Thank you for your help. Rebecca

      Hi again,

You may have acquired a UTI. Hurts before, hurts on release and hurts right after emptying bladder. Had 2 in my lifetime, and remember them well. Did they take a urine specimen? That could be causing your pain. I couldn't stand straight when I had mine. Hated having to go. But easily treated.

Some types of cysts are more prone to recurrance than others. Depends on what type you had. Have you been scheduled for a follow up scan to make sure the cyst healed and does not refill? Did they tell you what type it was?
