Experiencing pain with a an ovarian cyst, unsure what to do ?

Back in August I found out I have a 13.1cm cyst on my left ovary. It is just a simple cyst however due to size I will be having key hole surgery to remove it in February/early March. For a few days I have been experiencing a dull stabbing like pain in the area. I know that when a cyst ruptures it causes severe pain, so I know that it s not bursting or anything. This is more of a mild pain that has worsened over the last day or so. Still it isn t unbearable. I m unsure what to do as the gynecologist I saw said that if I experience any pain in the area to go the hospital. Although the pain is uncomfortable and getting a bit worse, it is still bearable. With new years pretty close I m not sure going to the hospital would be worth it ?

    Hi

I too had a simple cyst on my ovary in May, I would advise not to go into hospital until u can't bear the the pain as I went too early and was in for nearly 2 weeks, but still they did nothing, as they don't like to take them out if you have a scheduled op, i too had keyhole, which was fine, I was up and about in a few days, only bad thing was, I have another which is only 3cm, but having to have another scan in 2 weeks as getting more problems with it, I'm hoping this time they will remove my ovary too as I've heard they can reocurr.

    Good luck with your surgery

    Hi Danielle

I am new to having a cyst well that is what I am aware it is new? Stumbled over it when I got an ultra sound done due to chronic nausea.

I am waiting to see a obgyn , I thought my cyst was large it is a simple 6cm cyst on my right ovary.

I have so many questions it feels like forever it's been a month since it was found.

Maybe you can address these questions from your dr and your 13cm cyst ?

I have no pain at all like I said they stumbled over it , I do have chronic nausea tho for the last 14 months they can't find any cause to this. My GP said it is possible my symptoms are from the cyst?

Oh by the way it is a simple cyst and not cancerous as per the ultrasound.

Do they not find cysts to be taken out if they are a certain size , did you find out about your cyst when it was smaller. Do you know how fast they can grow and can you disolve them on your own... I am menopausal now!

I was wondering if there are certain things to stay away from like foods or exercises ?

Well I would love to hear back from you or anyone in this situation.

    Thx Robin

      Hey Robin

Alot of cysts will disolve and go away on their own, especially smaller cysts. Alot of the time doctors will request another ultrasound in a few months and if it looks like the cyst is going away in it's own (which is pretty common) they will just advise regular ultrasounds to check up on the cyst. So dont worry just yet, I've read alot of people who go for another ultrasound a few months later and their cyst is half the size or even gone completly.

My cyst isn't small but I've heard from one woman whose cyst was 28cm! Crazy

I'm not sure how fast cysts grow or even how long I've had mine for. However the last 1-2 years I have experienced extremely painful and irregualr periods, which is common with ovarian cysts.

I have heard before that nausea is common with women who have ovarian cysts. I read somewhere that most women will have at least one cyst on their ovaries in their lifetime, and most will not realise it as it causes them no pain. Apart from the painful periods and pain during intercourse, I never experienced pain around where my cyst is until a few weeks ago (which is when I posted this question). I went to the doctor last week and was referred to have an ultrasound which just found that my cyst is crushing my bladder and uterus, which is what is causing my frequent pain. Oh and also I have to pee like every 20 minutes because  it is pressing on my bladder >.<

in terms of diet definitely cut out all dairy from your diet. diary contains a hormone that has been found to make the cyst grow. also just in general i'd say eat a ton of fruits and veggies, cut out processed foods and just try to eat as healthy as possible.

my gyno advised me not to do any intense exercises but working out is part of my job so i still do excerise frequently. i tend to avoid anything too strenuous on my abdomen. i would suggest walking or light cardio, and obviously if you feel any pain while exercising just stop immediately.

overall i think the best thing you can do is focus on having a healthy diet and doing some light exercise. since finding out i have a cyst i really changed alot of my lifestyle and i feel so great. also try not to stress! i know it's hard but stress will not doing anything good for your health.

      sorry this is a bit long, i got a bit carried away haha. hope this helped in some way.  in="" terms="" of="" diet definitely="" cut="" out="" all="" dairy="" from="" your="" diet.="" diary="" contains="" a="" hormone="" that="" has="" been="" found="" to="" make="" the="" cyst="" grow.="" also="" just="" in="" general="" i'd="" say="" eat="" a="" ton="" of="" fruits="" and="" veggies,="" cut="" out="" processed="" foods="" and="" just="" try="" to="" eat="" as="" healthy="" as="" possible. ="" my="" gyno="" advised="" me="" not="" to="" do="" any="" intense="" exercises="" but="" working="" out="" is="" part="" of="" my="" job="" so="" i="" still="" do="" excerise="" frequently.="" i="" tend="" to="" avoid="" anything="" too="" strenuous="" on="" my="" abdomen.="" i="" would="" suggest="" walking="" or="" light="" cardio,="" and="" obviously="" if="" you="" feel="" any="" pain="" while="" exercising="" just="" stop="" immediately.="" overall="" i="" think="" the="" best="" thing="" you="" can="" do="" is="" focus="" on="" having="" a="" healthy="" diet="" and="" doing="" some="" light="" exercise.="" since="" finding="" out="" i="" have="" a="" cyst="" i="" really="" changed="" alot="" of="" my="" lifestyle="" and="" i="" feel="" so="" great.="" also="" try="" not="" to="" stress!="" i="" know="" it's="" hard="" but="" stress="" will="" not="" doing="" anything="" good="" for="" your="" health.="" sorry="" this="" is="" a="" bit="" long,="" i="" got="" a="" bit="" carried="" away="" haha.="" hope="" this="" helped="" in="" some="">

Thanks so much Danielle it helped . It is great to just hear how others are doing or maybe a little tip on what they were told and dealt with smile

I have heard the same as you and the research I have been doing about Ovarian Cysts . I am  post menopausal so the chances of it disloving is slim from what I read . I will not let this stop me, I am doing acupuncture , castor oil packs, epsom salt baths and making sure to get certain herbs that help. My GP did say if no pain he will just redo the ultrasound in a few months. Or he could refer me to gyno, I want to see one due to 14 months of nausea feelings. If it is related plus I want to get a CA125 and test my hormones other then a TSH. I am sure the specialist will do this plus the fact is its her expertise.Oh by the way since I have turned my food around I have lost about 70lbs..(5 stone) not sure where you are?

I am excited to get back to normal again.. is there such a thing lol

You know you mentioned FOOD I have heard this about DAIRY and SOYA products can create cysts.Well I am a Vegan/ GF now but for the last 25 years I was a lousy Vegetarian that ate alot of carbs and lots of soya milk and before this I ate gallons of ice cream was in a rut in my life , I gained about 100 lbs . It was only when I got ill in 2014 that I swore that the way I was eating had caught up to me and I know that years of eating poorly  would service one day. It did !!!

I think the reason I feel much better is I eat healthy and even cut grains out.

Well thanks again..keep me posted as I will on the progress :0 Robin
