Ovarian Cyst - Help me understand

Posted , 3 users are following.

Hey everyone. This is the first time ive ever posted anything about this but i feel so worried and just need advice. I had a CT Scan two weeks ago. They found a pretty large cyst measuring 7.4x6.6x7.1.

I was referred to a gyno by my regular doctor. I had an appointment next monday but they called today and said after the doctor reviewed my file he would like to see me sooner and also have blood work done. Im obviously freaking out bc i was thinking it wasnt anything to worry about but why all the sudden does he want to see me sooner and have blood work done?

Im 30 yrs old and the only pain im having is Pelvic pain comparable to menstrual cramps. My mom is a nurse and keeps assuring me everything is fine and where it is so large they probably just want to remove it. The wording on my CT scan is also weird. Nothing says anything about Malignant or Solid Masses. The report says "This is likely a solid a tense ovarian cyst with local mass effect on the bladder. There is no free flowing pelvic fluid"

""Well encapsulated rather large low attenuation cystic structure in the midline of the pelvis. This is likely a prominent ovarian cyst migrated to the central pelvis, a solid adnexal mass is not identified"

Sorry for the long post. Im very worried and dont know what all of this means. Or why doctor would want to see me sooner and do blood work. Any advice would be much appreciated.

My cyst is around the same size, I understand how you feel.

From my experience, I can tell you ...

The blood work is probably for tumor markers to make sure the cyst is not cancerous or a tumor (preliminary). You're very young and ovarian cancer is rare in younger women.

Fairly large cysts are also at risk for ovarian torsion which is when the ovary wraps around/twists around itself.

I'm sure you'll be fine. Don't freak yourself out too much.

I had something similar. Mine was removed through laproscopic surgery and, wasn't cancerous (God answered my prayers!!) They took the same steps for mine - blood work and I saw doctors asap. I think it's just protocol. It's best to take it out before it grows any larger.
