ovarian cyst - need advice

I had been having stomach pains/cramps for a few weeks ranging from period like pains to stabbing pains. I went to my GP who sent to a&e. I had a scan and was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst 7cm x 3cm. I was told go home take pain killers and they would see me in 3 months. I have ended up in a&e twice since with stabbing pains. The cyst is now over 9cm! I was told it was big enough to cause some discomfort but it would probably burst itself. What do I do I can't continue taking pain killers for ever. Any advice?

Hi corls I had a 7.5cm Cyst for nearly 10 months! Unfortunately I was having pains under my ribs and they scanned me and said I had a large gallstone and never told me about the cyst! They removed my gallbladder which was a nightmare and told me afterwards about the cyst! I started vomiting and had nausea on and off for 6 months and also periods every 20 days and breast tenderness and the period pains and stabbing pains too. They wouldn't operate as they said I was high risk due to previous bowel surgery. I went to an acupuncturist who told me to take milk thistle drops 15 drops twice a day in water. Within 4 weeks the cyst partially ruptured (very painful) and then When I got my next period it completely ruptured. I felt unwell for the month afterwards but once I got my next period which was last week I felt so much better. I also had headaches when I had the cyst. Some people have no symptoms and others do have pregnancy type symptoms. Unfortunately for me I lost my gallbladder unnecessarily as I believe the cyst was causing all my problems. Try the milk thistle as it will help get rid of it and balance your hormones.x

O am i so sorry you went through so much.  Doctors tend to make you feel like you are imagining it when it comes to gyne problems.  I was told in a&e that i looked too well for it to be the cyst causing me pain did you ever hear anything like it !!!!! I have booked a private appointment so hopefully i will get more satisfaction.

Corls if you can try the milk thistle. They will either put you on birth control to try to shrink it or tell you to watch and wait to see if it goes after a few months. If they remove it surgically it's possible you could loose the ovary. Cysts are very painful and can wreak havoc with your whole body. By the way I went private and that's what cost me my gallbladder!! I had gone to my gp with irregular periods and she told me it was probably the start of menopause at 43 and prescribed me a multivitamin!! Good luck with the private consultation and stick to your guns! Take care xxx

I would definately see another doctor.  Personally that is completely unacceptable for him to send you home for that long with medication.

Keep fighting until you are satisfied with the care you receive.

    Good luck!

I understand your pain! I had surgery last year for a cyst that exact size. Don't let them send you home with nothing! You should get it taken out because it will not get any better. The surgery kind of sucks, but it's worth it. It could start twisting like mine did and that pain is no fun and you definitely don't want it to burst! I'm glad you're getting a second opinion, good idea!

Thanks kelso_kels please god i will no more after my appointment tomorrow.  They told me in a&e that is probably twisting and untwisting and that is why i keep getting the pains!  They also said it would be better if it burst itself - i don't understand why!  Tomorrow will hopefully help

Hi again! Did you get any other info at your appointment? Also, I'm sorry I don't know what a&e means. They are probably right about why you are hurting so bad, but yeah I don't understand why they would let it burst! A lot worse things can happen! Plus, if it really is twisting it might burst faster.
