Ovarian Cyst Surgery, what to expect?

A little background...
Last July I began testing to be a kidney donor. Part of that testing was a CT scan, and on the scan they found a cyst on my left ovary. Followup was recommended with an ultrasound, and it was found to be a simple cyst measuring 6.4cm x 5.5cm x 6.7cm.
I went through with the kidney donation and almost two months ago I felt a lump above my belly button. Doctors recommended a CT scan thinking it could be a hernia. Scan was performed and no hernia was found but the cyst is still there and it has grown to 6.5cm x 6cm x 8cm.
I went to my annual exam today and gyno asked what I wanted to do about the cyst (mother has a history of cysts, emergency hysterectomy many years ago due to them). I agreed to surgery.
I asked how long I should anticipate being off of work (desk job) and she said she's had people be off for two days and go right back to work. Could someone please tell me their experience? Is two days realistic?
I didn’t think about this when scheduling the date, but my cycle is set to start just a few days before the surgery, is this okay?
Thanks!

I don't think 2 days is realistic for recovery. You will have some pain, probably needing pain meds so not really suitable for working with! You will have stitches, how many depending whether you have laparoscopic or full abdominal cut. I'm not sure about your period but you could call the surgeons office and ask for their advice. My cuts, 4 of them but only one stitch each for laparoscopic took about 3-4 weeks and were a bit sore unil the stitches dissolved full. I'm sure you will feel better when the cyst is removed, they can cause pain and other problems which the doctors cannot predict as we are all different. Hope all goes well for you.
