Ovarian cystectomy. (Please help?)

Hello,

On the 6th December I ended up having an ultrasound after around a year of incredibly sharp abdominal pain which showed a 7cm cyst on my right ovary and lots of little ones on my left.

My surgery is scheduled for 9th February however I'm getting married on the 20th and I'm wondering if I will be recovered enough to cope during the day of my wedding? The pain is getting worse every day and is now getting that painful that it's making me vomit on a daily basis.

If anyone could offer any advice I would be so grateful.

Thank you in advance,

Stephanie

Yes I'm having keyhole but the surgeon has told me that he's unsure what he will have to do until he looks around. He said he may need to remove the cyst and ovary but he just doesn't know until he's doing it. X

Hi Stephanie- I'm going for surgery in the morning 27th Jan. Like you I don't know if it's a laparoscopy (keyhole),Laparotomy or hysterectomy.I need 2 cysts 5cm and 8cm removed at least, but I can let you know how it goes if that helps. Take care-sorry you're in pain. I've got no symptoms at all,the cysts were found by chance,so I'm quite bewildered cos I feel so well! xx

Hi stephanie-promised you an update. Had a full hysterectomy in the end.removed 2 cysts, womb, ovaries ,omentum,cervix- but I'm 74 so that's fine. This is day 6 and it was a bigger op than I realised but cos I finally went to loo today(no 2) most of the pain has gone.I've been walking around since day 1 and have a good husband and family,I've slept a lot, drank a lot of water and am eating little but healthy. I see that you have postponed your op and I think you're right. Whichever op you have there is a lot of swelling around the abdomen and your dress would have been too tight I'm still in pjs on day 6. Enjoy your wedding day and just think by Spring you'll be back to normal and enjoying married life xx

Hi that was quick from your ultrasound to surgery. I've been waiting now since July for mine - in constant pain now. I've got 3 cysts one of which has over doubled in size. I have my pre-op on the 28th Jan but still no date for my op.

I hope everything goes well for you.

My gynaecologist said because of the amount of pain the position of it and some other factors that they want it out as soon as possible which is why I got such a quick appointment for my surgery. I was rushed through as an urgent case. If I were you I would just keep on and on at them asking for a date and they will sort you out a lot quicker. Just lay it on that you're in a lot of pain and that it's getting worse ect x

I was back at work 2 weeks after my operation in December. I was tired, but it was ok, your wedding will be something to look forward to and exciting for you.  Make sure you rest up afterwards, try to make sure wedding is all sorted in advance so nothing to worry you there.

I have never been so organised for Christmas as I was this year. My op was on 17th dec nd I helped to cook dinner on Christmas Day, although no alcohol as was still on painkillers at this point.

hope all goes well, it's definitely worth it. I have felt so well this last few days, that it made me realise just how ill I was  for 6 months before op.

So in your opinion, I should be fine to stick to that date? I'm just so worried about infection or anything because when I had my gallbladder removed through keyhole 2 of my 4 incisions became infected. And there's my dress too, it's a corset back and it has to be pulled incredibly tight, will this be a problem?

    Hi Stephanie,

I had a keyhole operation early last year. You should be fine, although you'd still be in your healing phase and you shouldn't get involved in vigorous activities. I think the insides need to heal also.

I wish you could move your surgery date forward, maybe explaining to your doctor could help with getting an earlier date. Otherwise, try to have as much organized for the wedding ahead of time as dizzylizzie said. It will be fine but you need to take things easy and have others i.e. family and friends, assist as much as possible. You'll be involved in planning but it should almost be like you are a guest at your wedding if you get my concept.......just breeze in, have fun, no physical hard work. And watch your dance moves lol!

    Best wishes and happy wedding!

I was told 2 weeks is what it generally takes to recover from a KEyhole.  I dont have anything else to add to the above... except that Im due for surgery the 9th also smile  Wishing us luck!!

I've actually post-poned my op until 23rd feb against my surgeons wishes but I tried my dress on and it was agony so I hate to imagine what it would be like if I did have my op on 9th 😔

I have had pain on my left ovary for yrs and cysts of and on. The last time they found a big cyst that was complex and bleeding into itself. I have four kids so I didn't need them anymore so they took them both.

You have to what is right for you, everyone is different, common symptoms but recovery varies.
