Ovarian dermoid cyst

hello.

So I've recently found out that I have a very large dermoid cyst on/in my left ovary. I also was diagnosed with PCOS. In December I have to have open surgery (not keyhole) to remove the cyst, As well as the whole of my left ovary and left Fallopian tube and I'm 20 years old. My specialist has said that the recovery time is 4 weeks! I was then told that if I want to conceive I'll need to go on medication to release an egg. I have a few questions for anyone who has been in a similar boat I guess;

1. How long did it take you to recover?

2. Did you have weight gain/loss after surgery?

3. Were you able to conceive properly with only one ovary?

And any other information would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi, I was 23 when I had this first. Same as you on my left ovary had all removed that side.

    1. How long did it take you to recover?

    It took 6 weeks to get 85% recovered, got better with time. Try not to do too much too quick (what slowed my recovery)

    2. Did you have weight gain/loss after surgery?

    I personally lost 7 pounds straight off, n got easier after to lose weight for a while

    3. Were you able to conceive properly with only one ovary?

    I've not been able (found same issue on right ovary, having surgery soon to remove my last ovary) but a friend I made in the hospital who had same thing n only one ovary, is now on her 2nd baby.

    I been told you'll still concieve with one ovary.

    Good luck n hugs

      Yes last time I gained about 5 pounds leading up, this time I've gained 10 pounds out of nowhere. Trying to lose some before surgery, which I was told will be within 6-8 weeks time, but very hard. They've offered metiformin which would help, I'd advise to ask bout it too.
