Ovarian dermoid cyst removal.

I'm haviing a small dermoid cyst removed from my over in 1 week. I've never had any kind of surgery before and I'm unsure of how long it will take me to recover. It's just a day surgery but I'm wondering how long I should take off work? I'm a support worker so I'm running around all day at work and I do a moderate amount of manual handling.

    Hey Caitlin

I had a 13.1 cm removed on the 26th of feb. They mad 4 small cuts across my belly, 1 on my belly button and I was in hospital overnight. I'm not going to lie, the first few days were hell. Quite possibly the worst pain of my life. I had my operation on Friday morning and basically spent Saturday and Sunday in bed. By monday I started to get quite down, thinking I would never feel better. Tuesday I woke up feeling alot better, and then Wednesday even better again. I would say by Friday, a week after my surgery, I felt just as good as before my operation. I went back to the gym yesterday for the first time since my op. I obviously took is rather easy but felt great. Went again today and honestly feel as if I never had an operation. My doctors did say 4-6 of no heavy lifting, not even shopping bags. I have no pain now what so ever and actually feel like I have more energy. I think you just have to listen to your body. Everyone is different in the way that they heal. Trust me when I say the first few days after your surgery, you will not want to move. Perhaps a week would be a good time to ask off for work. That way if you do feel better sooner you can always let your employer know? And if you need more time I'm sure your boss would understand.

Good luck! Hope everything goes well x

I had one removed in August. I felt pretty good from the time I got home. I stayed on my prescription pain meds for three days and then switched to Tylenol. I was in very very little pain, even right after. I pretty much sat on the couch for 3 days and felt back to normal in 2 weeks.

I had a 4cm dermoid cyst removed 7 months ago. I read a lot online before my surgery and saw people saying they were up and about and back to normal in a couple of days. Welllll, that was not the case for me. I was in such pain for the first three days, with the bloating, gas(make sure to have gasx by your side it works wonders), the shoulder pains(heating pad helps alot), and the pains in my stomach just getting up and down were horrendous(tylenol for that). You just have to take it slow. It took me two weeks to start feeling better and about a month to get back to my normal routines.

I had a 4.5 cm dermoid cyst by keyhole surgery two years ago. I was very sore and bloated for two weeks but painkillers helped.

I was off work for 10 weeks as my job is very active, on my feet all day and manual handling. Even after returning to work after 10 weeks I got tired easily.

Everyone is different, just take one day at a time but don't rush going back. You might look ok on the outside after a few weeks but remember you still have to heal on the inside too.

Good luck with the op xx
