Over 4 months since ankle surgery wound not healed

I slipped on stairs on Feb 14th broke three bones and was operated on Feb 16th. I was told it was one of worst ankle fractures they'd treated. Three plates were inserted. My current situation is I'm walking again with one crutch for short intervals and physio is happy with my progress. However the second wound on right side of ankle is now classed as a chronic wound and not closed/healed yet. I have to travel to hospital for weekly check ups on progress of wound. The doctors say if it hasn't healed in next two months I will have to get metal removed in case there is a biofilm -infection on metal plates. The wound was oozing pus a few weeks ago and I went on course of antibiotics to deal with infection. It is slowly improving but still being monitored. Has anyone experienced similar? I experience warmth in the wound and pains in bone. Any advice appreciated?
