Yes, I had those symptoms after my delivery and I was taking my dosage more then my body required 75mcg. I went to my doctor and told the symptoms( palpitations ) I always felt my heart going to sink. He prescribed me some medication to relief from palpitations and told me to stop thyroid medication and got me checked after every 15 days to check my tsh. It was kind of resetting thyroid, and guess what after 1.5 months he got me tested again and prescribed me 25mcg once a day. I was so greatful to my Doctor for helping my body subside all those symptoms. You can take magnesium rich food to get relief from palpitations eg pumpkin seeds and might want to cut down your dosage to check how you body respond. Good luck

Wow Vandy, you're the first person I've seen post that a doctor actually listened to and did something to solve the problem.

Your information about the magnesium us spot on, as my mother takes magnesium to relieve heart palpitations and irregularities.

Hi Vandy15. How long did it take for the heart palpitations to go down? I've been reduced from 50mg to 25mg the last week and I can't wait for the high pulse rate to go away. Thanks

mar7777, as I have mentioned my doctor prescribed me medication (whenever I experience palpitation, I took the pill). You can always take magnesium rich food, as it ease with heart palpitation. I hope you get better soon.

    Hi there,

In some people palpitations can also be a sign of under medicated and the shivering cold is also a sign that your not balanced. Have you any recent blood test results? Have you had your thyroid removed? How long have you been on 50mg Levo?

What was your levels in your latest blood work? If you end up in the hyper range, it can cause anxiety. 50 mcg is a low dose, I've been taking levothyroxine 125 mcg every day over the last 8 years and my T4 is always close to upper range. Also thyroid medication can cause constipation which sometimes feels like heart palpitations. My recommendation is to get a blood work. If your TSH, T4 levels are ok, then it's your anxiety causing this. I had some anxiety issues after a major surgery 8 years ago and started taking low dose of escitalopram which helped a lot.

Hi Tamela, there are literally thousands of posts on this site from people who've had unacceptable side effects of levothyroxin. Please read the many posts. You will find you are not alone.

There are many dietary and supplements you can use to help recover and maintain your health.

The side effects if levothyroxin can be devestating. Thus drug is known to cause lupus, fibromyalgia, heart problems, severe bone loss and other lifethreatening complications. I thought the hypothyroid was the worst thing ever until the migrains that were so bad i feared a stroke, and the many broken bones in my feet that caused me to be bedridden for months.

hi MtViewCa...... I dont think posting all those devastating side effects of Levo are helpful as we don't know the original posters circumstances regarding their thyroid. I have taken Levo for over 30 years, I had 7/8ths of my thyroid removed when I was 35. Without this medication people like me wouldn't be alive. The biggest cause of some people having bad side effects is that they are not on the correct dose of medication. However,. some people can react to certain fillers in different brands of Levo, I myself cannot tolerate Teva brand, makes me very ill. If you became so ill with Levo, what are you taking instead?
