Over the counter treatmens

i have not been diagnosed with oral LP but as I have vlp i feel sure that is what is making my throat sore. I am seeing GP in morning so should get proper diagnosis. I am anxious to avoid steroids if possible and wonder if anyone has had success with over counter treatments. like others in this forum I am getting so depressed with awful complaint I feel i would be glad to be dead. Hoping for some better news from other sufferers.
