Overactive Nervous System? Need Help!

Posted , 3 users are following.

Hey guys, recently I've been experiencing panic attacks almost daily. Everything seems to set them off. Being home alone, leaving my house even working out. Everything! My nerves feel like they are on edge and are close to panic. Is there a such thing as overactive nervous system due to anxiety? I've had bloodwork etc. All is normal. My anxiety just seems out of control! How can I reduce these feelings and calm my nervous system back to normal?

    Hi there

We are all different and all self help and medical advice therapys are therefore going to be affective to some and differer from one to another.

Its interesting you've said that is there such a thing as an overactive nervous system due to anxiety. That's a good question I have had that same question of my own about this.

I've found that many things have gotten worse now over the years.. I don't really want to go out i walk behind my partner if I do.I panic seeing family it's completely like I'm on edge!! Like I've not been before.. so looked in to it for my self.

I read an article on Dysautonomia- nervous system dysfunction. It's a holistic Web page by a lady named Cynthia perkins M E D. I was confused as the " normal ' anxieity is so heightened. I typed in about 2 months ago does anxiety affect your nervous system. I was fascinated with it as it explains what it is how it's related how it's talked a lot about. It's say the signs of it .

I can relate to so many of the symptoms.

Maybe you could read it and see what you think. I would never be one to say you have this you don't have his. I'm simply saying I asked myself that question. I've Ben to the dr we are working on Meds and groups and councling different techniques. Early stages .

I do personally think there is definitely a link simply when ones anxious we get nervous therefore it does affect are nervous system. Maybe it goes into overdrive

I hope you go on it hope you find the right answer

Yes there is such a thing.  I have had anxiety since elementary school so it built up for many years. In my 20s it all came to a head.  I have had the same panic .

The nervous system begins in the brain.

When you are anxious, your brain shoots out a hormone to protect you from what it perceives as a threat of harm,  that hormone makes your heart race, sometimes sweat, breathing changes, etc.

when you get the symptoms, you get more anxious and the brain sends out more hormone.  A vicious cycle!

to stop the cycle, the brain needs to calm down.

im at the point where I can stop the symptoms and panic.

one of the best things that you can do is to not overreact to panic or anxiety or symptoms!

Acknowledge it, but don't give it any more attention or fear.

Remember, panic or symptoms CANNOT physically hurt you!!  They feel weird and annoying, but that is it!!

Go to you tube if you are having a panic attack and search "panic attack emergency " they guide you through it.

There are many audios on anxiety, depression, etc that can help you!

I found that if I stay active and social, it keeps my mind focused on other things.

exercise helps the brain release endorphins, the feel good hormone.and calms the brain down.

in a panic, always bring yourself back to the present moment by going to your breathing.   Slowly inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth as though blowing out a candle. Think of how the air feels going in and out. Do this whenever you feel anxiety or panic.

your brain is waiting for you to help it calm down.

if you can possibly get a copy of the book called Mindfulness, it teaches us all of this!

This happens. At some time or another this hapoens. Usualyy its when its left unmanagd or you are in denial  or trying to ognore it or think it away. It womt stay out of comtrol but you need to make changes. Therpay is imprtant, ones that talk and texh techniques. Get an amxiety amd phobia workbook amd read thru everywprd. Its is helpful in explaining stuff amd taking you thru techniques. If you find its all way too kich speak to your gp. This is sadly common. Sometimes for a short time you need meds but still go to therapy. No trade off. The meds just to help but the therapy to manage it forever. Your brain can fogure this out. It does but the reality is you will get oanic attacks from time to time and you need to learn to accept them as is. No fear, no inteusive thought..etc.. not so easy this takes practice and a ton of open mindedness and mindful stuff.  No wuick fix with this . And there will be a time it calms doen then pops up again. That is not a setback ot os a disorder a d if you let it ride thru you and use learned technoques then it passes and you did it well.

You have some helpful advice from others on here you need to get the workbook see your options and see what resonates with you. This is a personal journey in the end. Theres a lot of research going into this thy are trying to figure it out.

I went off Methadone for chronic pain in March 2017. In April 2017 a Dr overmedicated my thyroid. I went through hell & still am. They took me completely off thyroid meds & then went back on. While off in September my foot started vibrating & buzzing. It has traveled all over my body. I'm working with a naturopath doing myers vitamin ivs & amino acid therapy to balance neurotransmitters. Epinephrine is high & GABA(from klonopin) & am weaning off & going on valium. Still so nervous & anxiety(physiologic). Also, doing pulse magnetic imaging for brain waves. Just put on a tricyclic antidepressant Trazadone. Wasn't hardly sleeping until 2 weeks ago. Has anyone experienced anything like that?
