Overwhelmed ... 27cm cyst

Hi everyone! I'm new here, but I've been reading your posts for the past couple days to help ease my mind. My name is Cassie and I'm 29 years old, I was diagnosed this week with a 27cm mucus filled cyst (they did give me a name but it trailed off in my head) after an ultrasound for a suspected kidney infection since I was in pain, which discovered the cyst and then led to my cat scan. I did take the ca-125 and was told it was negative. I've had a lot of good news so far but they're not ruling out C yet because I need to have surgery. I see the gyn-onc on Weds for a pelvic exam and discussion. The good news they said that it is fluid filled, contained, and that a carcinoma would be clear.

I'm just overwhelmed, sad, happy about the good news, then anxious all over again. I'm just looking for some support and advice, did anyone else have symptoms? My husband and family have been great but it just feels like I'm still staring down a black hole.  Thanks for listening! ?? Hope everyone is good and has a wonderful weekend.

Hi Cassie, sorry you've not had any replies so far but it is the holiday season so probably not many people around the forum at the moment. It sounds like a fluid filled cyst but is certainly large. The gyn onc's are the best consultants to see you as they have lots of experience with these cysts and can rule out cancer as soon as they see them. You will need surgery soon as there is a danger of it twisting round the ovary and very painful. The sooner you can have it removed the better I think. I had one removed last year plus ovaries and tubes, my own choice as I'm 74 now. Recovery is fairly quick, 3-4 weeks after a laparoscopy, (keyhole surgery), may be a bit longer if it's done through the abdomen, laparotomy. You sound like you have a good supportive husband and family who will take good care of you so try not to be depressed. It is a bit scary but all will be well after your recovery. The anaesthetic was fine and I was prescribed pain meds for after while I needed them. Good luck and best wishes, Pollyanna UK. Keep posting! smilerolleyes

Thank you for your kind words and I hope you are feeling better after surgery! 🙂 I really appreciate it.

I found out more info today, the gyn/once believes it's borderline and I'm having surgery Friday. Everything is moving very quickly, my nerves are going crazy. I am hoping and praying for the best outcome. I also am sending my love to anyone on this forums who is feeling anxious - I'm right there with you! I'll be having a laporatomy (sp? lol) due to size.

      Have a great night!

Hi Cassie. Pleased to hear you're getting the surgery you need. A laparotomy will take a bit longer to recover from due to the cut but not much longer. You have a supportive family so don't be afraid to ask for help while you have stitches or to ask for pain relief from Doctors or nurses while in hospital if you need it. They say we heal and recover much faster with good pain relief. All my best wishes for tomorrow, (Fri). Come back on and tell us how you are getting on after. Best wishes, Poll x smile

Pollyanna thank you for being so great. I am home recovering 🙂 I made sure to walk and do my breathing exercises while in the hospital, I was home by Monday. I'm trying to be positive, my mass was cancerous. She removed my ovary, tube, ommentum and appendix for good measure. My other organs and uterus/ovary looked clean and it was fertility sparing. Everything was contained and there was no spillage which my surgeon said was great. She was fantastic. I find out more next Wednesday when I go into see her. I definitely suggest for anyone going through this to go to a gyn/once regardless of your mass.

For anyone as scared as I was for surgery, tell the nurses and doctors. Their good humor and kindness will help put you at ease! I can't say enough how much they helped me. Always voice your concerns. Anything off I was feeling I told them.

I would write more but I'm still pretty tired 😴 and need rest. It's amazing how much better I feel now then I did when I had something so massive on my ovary though! Sending love and positivity for ladies going through the same.

Hi Cassie, pleased to hear your surgery went well and that it was done before any spread. Listen to your body now and do what it says! Rest and recuperate, don't overdo things. I hope the news is good at your next appointment. Come back and let us know how you get on. Best wishes, Poll X smile
