Overwhelming anxiety after 2 weeks on 20 mil of Lexapro

used Lexapro 10 mil for 9 yrs and it stopped working! GP put me on 20 mil of the med and I am experiencing so much nervousness and anxiety! Help !

    i think you should go back to your doc wilb if you have been on it at the max dose for weeks & you feel no better. x

    It's probably even worse in the morning.

    I suggest you ask your doctor to transition

    you on to a different medication . That's what I did and the anxiety is almost gone. Just 5mgs to go and I am done with this drug.

      The psychiatrist I deal with says this is just a side effect and it should diminish soon! He states that I should add kolonpin to it until the Lexapro has time to kick in! He says it takes a good 6 to 8 weeks for the full effect to show, therefore I have about 4 more weeks before so see complete relief!

    Why do they add another medication to take away the anxiety.

    They have no idea how intense this feels. Name one other med that caused this terrible feeling when you take it.

    It makes me mad that I suffered almost a year before I changed meds and now feel fine! Take charge of your doctor and say "no more "if you are suffering more than you should be. I have found the anxiety from this drug an intolerable side effect, maybe not for everyone but most.

      killdogroad which med did you switch to?

      i switched from escitalopram (20mg) also because the anxiety was too much (i gave it 3 months to see if the anxiety would ease, but it did not for me)

      im on sertraline now and doing much better!

    HI Wild, 

    Have you thought about the fact that it might be the tablets worsening your anxiety?

    There is alot of cases where lexapro can bring on anxiety. 

    I have been on them for a year, now im starting to have more anxiety through out the day and i cannot wait to get off them, i feel like they have bought my depression back on as they hold your mood at a stable flat ground. 

    Therefore how are we meant to fix anxiety if our mood is stable and not happy? 

    Happiness and a carefree attitude is the best medicine and i feel like lexapro prevents that, so something to think about smile

      My therapist said this is not unusual when you first start on the medication! Should subside after 4 weeks!
