Ovestin v Vagifem

Posted , 7 users are following.

I have been taking Vagifem for about a year which has made improvements internally but not much to the outside vaginal folds. I've been advised to switch me to Ovestin so I can apply the cream externally.

I wondered if anyone has had any success or improvement using Ovestin n this way?

I've used both GYNEST and Vagifem. Neither helped really. Then I tried Ovestin Cream the other Saturday night and I was so sore, I hardly slept. It was awful. So I won't be using that either. I used GYNEST and Vagifem for about 6 months each. Every time I used a tablet or some cream I kept hoping that it would be the dose that would finally result in my VA symptoms going, but it never happened.

Thanks, I didn't think it would be much better. But was hoping :-) I used Gynest too that was pretty useless :-( .

Maybe you were allergic to it..or maybe a small cut made it burn? I read sometimes the creams can burn a short while in the beginning.Makes sense because we all are so irritated to start.

Mayb you should try the compounded version of the cream as mentioned on here.ointments usually dont burn like creams.

Hi Shirley:  I use premarin, asked my doctor about vagifem and he said like premarin better because you can put cream on the outside.  Its okay but I still have many uncomfortable days

Uncomfortable is the new normal! I didn't know premarin came in a cream, what strength is that? i think Ovestin us 1mg.

OK a slightly lower dose, but doing something even if it's not ideal. My consultant told me it won't be curable just manageable!

My doc mentioned using both.just a small amount on outside as needed i still havnt taken anything, but i have a feeling i will be soon.

That might be my next suggestion if it's not strong enough. The idea was to lower the dosage and target the problem area which for me is the outside skin.

I cannot use any creams. They all sting and burn. So I had Estriol componded in some type of oil. The NP I saw said it would take at least three months or more to notice if it was doing anything. So far I have only used it for three weeks . This is for the outside. I need something inside and out.

It does take time to kick in, I hope you get some relief soon. As you can tolerate oil have you tried the coconut oil quite a few here use that inside making it into a pessary when it's cold it solidifies then melts?

Did you ask about staying on the vagifem and just dabbing a small amount on as needed for vulva using the cream?

No I didn't think to but mainly as I was keen to reduce the Vagifem as I was taking more than is recommended due to having no ovaries. But I have a check up in a month so I could ask then if it's not working.
