Oxycontin problems? It's in the news

I won't leave a link here, but if you Google "Oxycontin LATimes" you'll see that Purdue, the manufacturer, lobbied/lobbies widely with U.S. doctors & surgeons to prescribe this to their patients. Because it does NOT deliver the 12 hours of relief as marketed, it is ripe for abuse. Even in trials 12 hour relief was not the norm, it was more like 8 hours. Doctors were just told to prescribe a bigger dosage rather than a more frequent one. Of course, the object of this deception was/is $$$$$$$$$$.

This is what son was prescribed postop, and I do remember it did not last 12 hours.

I'd be interested to know which painkillers hippies here were prescribed. Mahalo in advance for your informative replies!

      Loral,

I would be interested in knowing how much

      Thanks,

What I meant to ask Loral is how much tramadol you took.

50mg every 4-6 hours, it helps with nerve pain and takes the edge off of my back pain....Now I take as needed.

Thanks for getting back to me. I find this discussion interesting as I read what others are taking. I am 15 weeks post op and frayed around the edges with all this pain ( tripped over a curb and walked on a torn quad muscle for a month before it was repaired 3 weeks ago). I am back to see the surgeon this week to see why I still have so much pain.😝

      All the Best,

      Barb

Hope things start looking up. Take care.

      With hugs.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Loral - is it Laura? Your experiences are so different in the UK. We don't know Tramadol in the US - I do know it's an opioid. Aloha

I am in Michigan USA and because of such abuse of opiates, the Dr.'s prescribe Tramadol (Ultram), and that too can be addictive if abused.

Mahalo for sharing, Gill. I know the latter has codeine, and the former is an anti-inflammatory. Best to you!
