Hi Kathy. I can't comment very knowledgably on this,as I am yet to be formally diagnosed and have not had any medication. However I do get vaginal itching when other symtoms flare up. Maybe it's part of the condition hope this helps.

Pred can increase risk of Candida. I don't know if at lower levels of Pred if the risks are still there. Pred causes dry mouth, nose, skin, hair, so maybe dry vaginal area too?? They say avoid sugars which can feed Candida. My Rheumy gave me vagifem to insert sometimes for dryness. (Sorry men if too much info!) apple cider vinegar supposed to help. My primary doctor asked me if I had leisions down there, I said no, and didn't asked why she asked that.

I had UTI's (urinary track infections) several times while on higher doses of prednisone in my first year of tratment for PMR.  Sulphur meds took care of the problem each time.

Based on previous postins on the topic and some independent Goggle research, I believe prednisone makes us more suseptible to urinary track infections due to our weakened immune system.  My regular use of public pools for aqua exercise may also have been a contributing factor.

I haven't had a UTI for about a year now, but always travel with prescribed medication in case I need it.

Pred can predispose you to thrush - but if you mean from your second post that you have spotting of blood you should go to your GP soon because any vaginal bleeding post-menopausally must be taken seriously until proven to be nothing important.

UTIs can also be part of PMR - in some cases the muscles are affected and the bladder doesn't empty properly. If there are any bacteria present they tend to stay around and can eventually lead to a real infection. Irritable bladder syndrome is also common - due to inflammation in the bladder wall.

It is definitely spotting....not an infection. Have an appointment next Tuesday. Always something!😊 Thanks...

Hi Kathy. Could you get a phone appt sooner?

It always seems to be something doesn't it. As soon as we sort one problem we have another thrown at us.

As the others have said this needs investigating. The sooner the better.

      take care Jen xx

Eat lots of different kinds of fermented foods to help your body maintain a healthy balance of microorganisms.  Yoghurt, sauerkraut, kimchi, curtido, krauts made from other veggies besides cabbage, kefir, aged cheeses, brie, etc.... (I know I've missed some).

Do you make your own curtido? Sounds yummy...

There is a young couple who have a farm, charmingly called "Off Beat Farm" who sell at our local farmers' market.  He looks like he time travelled from the '60s, she not so much.   They make these extraordinary foods, every week there is bound to be something new, along with the old favourites (and we get more and more "old favourites" all the time).  This week I bought a kraut made from beetroot and turmeric.  At this time of year they are also selling fresh greens, edible flowers, eventually they'll have some unusual mushrooms....  So, long answer to your question - no I don't make my own!

Have you got an easy one? If so - I'd love it!

I looked on line but I prefer tried and tested...
