Hi all i know we all suffer with pain because of our condition but does any one get a pain like it feels like a shooting pain someone is ramming a steel rod into your fingers and or toes? I get it often and it bloody hurts like hell, or am i the only one who gets it?

Hi Robert, how much sugar do you consume in your diet?    I have awful pain in toes and fingers, and I have noticed that it flares along with other pains if I have too much sugar.  I have tried to be disciplined and stick to a diet without added refined sugar, but sometimes get tempted (especially when feeling low) . I always regret it when the pain intensifies.

      Hi Pat

I have cut out sugar almost completley i dont have any granulated sugar at all. I have sweetners in coffee i rarely drink alcohol so the only sugars i get is natural sugars.

You are obviously doing the right thing already about sugar, thought it was worth a mention just in case.  I rarely take painkillers because they cause more problems for me.  What I have found good is drinking ginger and turmeric with a twist of black pepper which helps the absorption of the turmeric.   Doesn't get rid of the pain but it lessens the intensity.

Well Pat I have had PA for over 20 years and did not know about the Sugar problems - you live and learn that's why these forums are soooo good - I try not to have sugar as I am always watching my weight and not much dairy and no Chocolate all because of weight - 8st 3lbs and want to stay that way - the steroids make you eat 'The Fridge'

i will try what you say and cut it out altogether - thanks

It certainly makes a difference for me, I hope that it will for you.  I still eat natural sugars because I eat fruit. But  I don't eat confectionary or deserts full stop and try not to eat any sugar added products if I can help it.  I have not been diagnosed with PA, but the rheumatologist  picked up psoriatic enthesopathy. The inflammation happens where tendons connect to bones.

I certainly believed him as he investigated the possibility, because everywhere he touched was very painful. He referred to it in his notes as "exquisite pain"

I have had pain on pain, it's awful but I just try to cope with it not always successful though - when it's really bad it depresses you and you feel like you are the only one - but we are all with you on this one.........my physio has just recommend me to a pain management programme and I have just had a 6 week course of Acupuncture not sure it worked but it was a relaxing time and I slept really well for a few days.........keep in touch and take care

      Hi Cat Lady

I have had a course of Acupuncture for my back pain which really helped but like everything on the NHS you get it for a while then they stop and thats it. I also had a Course of Hot Wax treatment which did help a little but it was not long lasting but yet again that was stopped after a few sessions. I was going to have Steriod injections because of myTenosynovitis but the swelling went down and they cancelled it because it had to be inflamed at the time so that has been put on hold for 6 Months if it flares up again i can have it.
