I would really like to hear from anyone who also as pad. I am deciding on surgery may be a stent angioplasty procedure. I would love to know if this as in fact helped anyone else, hope so. I am fed up with not being able to walk very far without getting calf pains.

Why are you hesitating ? If your Cardiologist has suggested this option to you he must think it will benefit you. If he finds narrowing in your Artery bad enough to merit a Stent he could insert it there and then while he is performing your Angioplasty. There's nothing to worry about. You'll be sedated and under strict supervision . Just think of many years of pain free walking ahead of you. This is one of the many procedures l've had performed on my Heart so l do know what l'm talking about. All the best. Mo Trouble

Hi Mo I am really pleased with your advice. The reason I  was not sure about any surgery was that the consultant  said  that they do not like to operate unless there is a chance of the leg being lost altogether and at the moment he said my leg or legs were not at risk. I saw the same consultant a year ago and then his advice was to leave things as they were for now he did advice statins and daily asprin which I am taking daily.I really do not know if there is a waiting list or perhapes more urgent cases. He went on about the stents do not last forever and if the blockages are long the procedues they use can in fact collapse. My Husband and myself were left feeling confused. The only person I know who had this procedures done my brother inlaw said that it did not help his walking whats so ever. I think I need to speak to my GP and ask what the sucess rate is. I am very grateful for you replying to my problem and I am pleased tht you are well. Janet.

Hi Janet. You do right to speak to your Dr. I just want to tell you about the latest most modern kind of Stent. I might not get the wording perfect but they are Polylactide Biodegradable Scaffolds. Ask your Dr about them and Google it. They absorb into the Artery and make it stronger, they last longer. It's same rove dire as having the ordinary Stent in. I had mine in about 2 years ago and am very proud of my Scaffold !! LoL. I had my 1st major Heart Attack 7 years ago. 6 years ago I had my extra electrical pathways that I'd developed Lasered out in Manchester. 2 years after that on my 66th birthday I had my 2nd Major Heart Attack with Cardiac Arrest again. In Blackpool Mr Tang my surgeon discovered that l needed a Triple Heart By Pass and that my Main Aorta was in very bad condition. He wouldn't be able to put a Mechanical Valve in cos l have End Stage 5 Kidney Disease, he managed to salvage it but in his opinion it had been leaking for 20 years. I'd had bad Heart problems since 1986. He did my By Pass and repaired my main Aorta then so I thought no more problems no more Angina but I was wrong because after a few months Angina started again. An Angiogram showed that my 4 th Artery which had been clear when I had my By Passes was badly clogged and needed clearing. I went back into Blackpool Victoria and that's when my Scaffold was inserted. 2 years later l still get Angina but milder and l have Isosorbide Mononitrate every day to stop attacks of Angina. I have Kidney Dislysis 3 times a week. My Angel Nurses are marvellous. I've been Bi Polar all my life, that is hell on earth. I have Arthritis in my hips, knees and spine. Very painful. I take lots of pills everyday for all my ailments. I broke my right arm twice too. I'm 70 now and I do know what is what. I worked hard all my life and brought up 3 wonderful children. I have still got a brilliant sense of humour and as l said to my ex husband who lives next door to me , we have little bungalows. "" if l ever lose my sense of humour will you shoot me ??!!""" I'm only tiny, shrunk s bit to 4ft 10inches but I'm a fighter , always have been to survive. Im extremely lucky to be loved by the best Family and Friends in the world. My advice is take whatever makes your life more comfortable, pain free and happier. Don't worry unnessasarily , ask questions . Good luck Mo Trouble
