pain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi to all my fellow hippies,

I hope you are all well this wet and windy day ( well it is here in Scotland) lol, incase there are some of you that don't follow my posts here's the run down, followed by my question,

back in nov. last year I had a LTHR, at the time both my hips were infected with OA but the left was giving me the pain, anyway now 7 months later and up until last week all was well with the left, the pain in the right is unbearable, I am on the list for that one , and I have been told I will get a date on or before july 24th, my problem is, the left hip is hurting for the first time since after the opp. I was walking around on a crutch ( because of the right one) I got this kind of ache in the scar erea and now it's like a stinging sensation, it's not the same or as bad as the un-operated side, but I'm worried that all the strain I'm putting on it because of the other side is wearing it out prematurely, I have called the hospital and they say I can go on another surgeons cancelation list and maybe get in sooner, but they don't recomend this, as every surgeon has their own methods, and it's best to stay with the guy who did the left, so what to do that is the question, the pain now in the right one is far worse than the left one ever was, it's so debilitating, sorry to be whining on, but this is really worrying me, I'm usually so positive, I guess I just hate being out of control of my own body, thanks for all your help on this forum, I have made some great chat buddies lol,

have a great day all of you,

Lynne.

    Hi Lynne,

I totally sympathise. I had a RTHR at the end of February and am scheduled to have the left one done on 13th August. Like you, the pain in the left one is far worse than the right one ever was - although my muscles are not at tight and painful as they were before. I use a stick for my left hip - and sometimes get niggles in the right - but usually only if i've over done things - and I am only 4 months post op.Not really a lot of help to you, but just wanted you to know you are not alone - and I really hope you get a date soon. x

      Hi Shirley,

oh thank god I'm not the only one!! I thought I was about to have to have another new hip in the left as well as the right!! I think maybe I'm am trying to stay mobile and forcing myself to go out to the shops ETC. but if I just sit there all the time the weight keeps piling on due to being sedatory.

good luck for august, hope all goes well for you,

      Lynne x

Aww Lynne, have you tried an ice pack ? does that help to ease the pain? I thnk if I was in the same position I would stay with the same surgeon, but I do agree that maybe you should phone and ask for a clinic appointment, this would at least put your mind at rest that no damage was being done to your LTHR. Love Gillxxx

Hi Lynne ... I am in the same situatio as Shirley - had R THR 14 weeks ago and need to have L THR as cartilage of left hip joint had gone from mild OA to severe bone-on-bone within 6 months ... this last week I felt gnawing pain in my right hip - so discouraging - my walk is terribly unbalanced and affected the muscles in right leg and butt muscle - I need to move first (by August 01) before i can schedule surgery .. I would stay with the surgeon who did your first THR -

GP has doubled pain meds and it seems to be helping - are you taking pain meds at all?  I hate it, honestly, but the pain otherwise is difficult to handle ...

be gentle with your self - warm hug

      Hi renee,

the pain is in my butt aswell, it's likethe bone in my butt on the operated side, can't get comfortable when I'm sitting, I have tried air cushions, memerory foam seats everything, and I have been fine until last week , it's just so confusing, I can hardly walk with the right one so painfull, I wanted them both done at the same time but they sAID no, the reason... cos it would be too much strain on my body during  recovery!! well it seems to me that if the left is going bad cos of all the waiting, then I may aswell of had them both done, i would be back to normal now, it's all down to , money, if they can get away with only one opp. they will, no matter how much distress your in.

      thanks for your support,

      xx
