Not sure about tkr but after my scopes I was told no uneven surfaces. Told me to even stay out of the yard till it healed up. Pulling and stretching the muscles, tendons etc, would tear stuff loose.

12 weeks out.  That's interesting.  I'd stopped walking because I was biking and otherwise exercising, but my PT told me to continue walking.  I even mowed the lawn, which didn't feel great afterward, but I think it was because it was such a workout.

When I walk, I focus on two things:  1) making sure I'm using the heel-to-toe foot plant correctly, and 2) ensuring that I keep my quads flexed.  The latter seems to keep the various tweaks to a minimum.

That being said, I'd suggest a conversation with your PT.

It's worth at least a call to them.  They can tell you if there's reason for concern or can make suggestions about where to go from there.  Noreason to continue on if you think theres a pronlem.

Hi Janice Im also 13 wks TKR and also experience aching and pain whwn I walk more than !5mins or so. Its also hard to walk on uneven surfaces and dropped curbs. Im not using a stick as I didnt have the op to use one so trying to manage without. My Gp has given me medication called Lyrica, tho Ive heard some bad things about it. She said its nerve pain and paracetemol  doesnt touch it. Ive only just started the Lyrica as you have up the dose gradually but they have helped me sleep.

So sorry you feel so bad...I understand the pain oh to well. Im on my second replacement and definately wasnt looking forward to the pain but to encourage you ...there will be a day where you will start to feel more yourself again. It is a major surgery and youve been thru alot.Dont get discouraged.I dont know if you take pain meds.and I know that there is concern for people getting addicted to opiods but at the beginning of this proccess unfortunately you need help to get thru the pain so you can move your knee and get the therapy to be more mobil and strenghten those muscles that have been tampered with during your surgery.Ice,Ice and more ice....that will help with swelling and pain.use as often as you can.It took me atleast the first year to start to feel better.Everyone is different but I would just give yourself some time.Good luck .hope ive encouraged you.

My understanding is that your meds. Are for muscle spasms ...im surprise your dr. Hasnt given you something else for your pain. Unless there is something conflicting with what you are currently taking. Do you do any type of therapy at all? I decide to get a recumbent bike and when I get stiff I ride it to get my knees to loosen up.Thinking maybe once your muscles get stronger hopefully you wont have spasms.Streching seems to help also. If it continues to bother you Id get your dr. To tell you what would help you....You should get some answers.

What mg diazepam? How often you take it? Can build a tolerance to that stuff fast. If it's helping good. If not there's other stuff not so strong may work. Make you less drowsy. Meclizine.

10-15 minutes may be too much at 13 weeks.  It's simple...if the knee hurts or swells, it means you pushed it too far.  Try a pedometer or FitBit.  Find out where your limit is...that is, the amount of time (or steps) you can walk without pain or swelling.  Stay there a bit and increase gradually.

I once did 8,000+ steps in one day and paid for it dearly.  Never made the same mistake again.
