Hi. I had this on my TKR. The doctor prescribed Pregabalin Mylan. For short term. It’s not a steroid and it’s only for one month. It worked for me

Hi Mary I’m in a similar position in that I’m also 11 weeks 2nd tkr on my left knee.  Had right knee tkr October 2016. Sleep is still very erratic.  I can’t bend bend my left knee past 30 yet.  I saw my surgeon yesterday and he said the burning sensation is due to nerves mending.   I also get a burning sensation in my right foot, again down to nerve damage even though it’s been 19 months since that one.   I am going for a consultation with a private physiotherapist tomorrow  who is very experienced with TKR as I’m getting nowhere with the nhs physio.  If I learn anything I will be sure to pass it on.  I’m just thankful that we have this forum to share experience, advice and support as it can be such a hard rd with pain, sleeplessness and depression  being the norm.   I have now started to meditate and do relaxation techniques ( I just find them on YouTube). They are helping a little.   However I still have bad days and nights where I am so tired and in pain I don’t function well,  par for the course for most of us I think,  I hope you have a better day today.  Keep smiling 😀

It has been 19 months for me since my TKR and lately I have been having some minor issues such as knee (fibula) seems to hurt (pressure on the fibula and tibia) when I bend over to the floor and pick up sticks in the yard, etc. I have not been doing any exercises for months and started back up...now my knee feels  somewhat swollen inside. I hope this is just from inactivity to activity. I got an order from my new primary care Dr. to get an X-ray to see what is going on. I guess our TKR never really feels healed and back to normal???

Hi Kerrie. Thanks for your reply!! How did your physio appointment go? I had a visit to mine this afternoon and she spend about 20 mins just massaging my knee - bliss!! Had been going to her, privately, for first 6 weeks after op and then started physio with NHS - GP referral on discharge from hospital eventually came through! NHS physio lovely but more emphasis on exercises including bike rather than hands on this time round - guy I had last time on NHS concentrated on deep massage of joint and said I could do exercise myself at home! Slept better last night and knee more comfortable this morning. Think it was massage so will keep rubbing knee myself more often ! My first knee has not been as good as it was before I had second one done - maybe taking more of the work and not ready to be "boss knee" as only 8 months between ops. Down to only 5 mg Oxycontin at night - takes ages to come off as if I reduce dose by more than 5mg a week get horrid withdrawal symptoms!! Seeing surgeon again in couple of weeks!

Pain stinks I get it. What I have done that helps when my knee is screaming at me, I put an ice wrap on it and then put a pillow underneath it may be uncomfortable at first but it does help me when I cannot sleep due to severe knee pain. As its been said no two surgeries are the same. I can vouch for that I have had 17 including 5 TKR's all on the same knee and currently depending on what the Dr. finds on some labs I will be having another surgery either June or July.
