Pain 3.5 months post lhr

Ouch! My left hip has started hurting again when I'm weight-bearing. I've not overdone it at all, and it only hurts when I'm walking about, especially when getting up from sitting. I've been pain free for a couple of months prior to this and now I'm needing to take co-codamol again just to do normal light activities. I had my right hip replaced 15 months ago and that is giivng me no trouble, but the left is definitley not happy. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what's going on/what I should do?

Contact your doctor. Maybe it's nothing serious but good to check it out.

Check with your doc.  It could just be a nasty reminder.

I love Duck soup.... lol....and I make it!  ..... read your response to someone some wear.... to swim with fins....... such excellent advice..... I swam with fins back when I could get in and out of a pool..... the doctors said that I would have fallen apart years sooner had I not put myself on a swim regiment.

My hip has been in 30+ years and they JUST now did a heavy metal test on me.... because.... I thought the hip pain in the THR was a possible infection.... my metal levels are off the charts..... lol.... so whenever I hear someone is having pain I suggest seeing a Doctor and not waiting......

      Have an amazing week!

I have been swimming for three years now.  I got kicked off my road bicycle by my neurosurgeons.

I am getting an 8 speed trike in the next month and doing the MS bike tour in September.

GOOD FOR YOU!  When living in a Houston I would do it every year with Friends to Austin.  Of course, I was younger and sometimes would do it in one day.  Start riding longer and longer, each time out.  It will kick your ass at first.  It is a great goal.  At least with a trike you can take foul weather gear with you.  Find  a group to train with.

I will try to be patient and give it couple more weeks, then make an appt with my doctor if it's no better. It doesn't feel urgent, just sore and annoying. Thanks to all for your responses.

      Dear SJ

Please do not wait... sore and throbbing could be a sign of infection and or rejection for some reason..... both with antibiotics can be overcome.... but if you had one hip with no trouble.  This one is different....Please....listen to your body.

Hi. Are you still doing your exercises? If the pain is getting worse, get your doctor to assess. Is it nerve pain, muscle pain, bone pain, tighteness. I don't have pain when I get up from sitting down but more stiffness

So every 3 hrs, I have to get up, stretch, March, bend down, touch my toes, go up on my toes, stretch calves and hamstring. Just can't sit still for too long.

      Hi Claudia

Thanks for your response. I had stopped doing the exercises as I thought I was nearly back to normal, walking quite a bit/doing gentle housework etc before this setback. I have a fitbit which nags me to get up and walk (or hobble!) 250 steps if I haven't moved in the last 50 mins which is useful, and I've now started doing the exercises again so hopefully that will help. If things don't improve in the next few days I think I'll arrange a physio appt.

It’s interesting how many of us sail along till a setback occurs.  Myself, it was an infection at week three but it went away fast.
