    Hi Channing

It certainly sounds like a hernia pain to me.Before I had my op last year my main symptoms were reflux and took omeprazole for few years.Eventually couldnt get my breath walking uphill .Thought I had chest infection cos pain in back too.

However will get to the point! I now have severe pain down side of neck and chest, recently admitted with possible angina. Turns out hernia back(they do unfortunately) but these symptoms worse.Seeing surgeon later this month Hope this is of some help. You are not going mad, though pain is worrying unless u know what it is I do now they dont like to operate unlesss necessary cos some after effects not great either  Ask for painkillers too

    Hi Channing,

If the meds are not working - you have to go back. Explain the pain and problems you are going through. They don't know if it's not working if you don't go back. Did they advice you about changing you diet or anything like that? There's lots of foods and drinks that aggrevate a hernia, such as coffee, tea, alcohol, chocolate, fried foods - the list is quite long! I've got a hiatus hernia and reflux - causes all kinds of problems that you wouldn't even imagine - from jaw pains to dead arms as well as acid related issues. I am waiting for op - but it has taken me a couple of years of backwards and forwards to docs - various meds which have changed and increased - and tests to get to this point.

I really hope you get some help to resolve things.

Hi glennie, yes I have bin back and forward to the docs, I have been for a barium swallow, just waiting for my results. And on the 7th jan I go for an MRI, it's convinced me I think there is something wrong wen there isn't.  I've bin to the a&e a few times, and they say everything looks ok.

Well at least you should get some answers with these tests! Barium swallow should highlight digestive problems - and MRI just about anything else!

Hope all goes well for you and good luck!
