Pain 4 weeks after THR operation

hi. I had THR 4 weeks ago. the swelling is gone and I felt ok until the physiotherapist replaced my crutch to a walking stick. I have been using walking stick for 4th day but pain in the groin area of the operated hip increased especially during the night. I had less pain after an operation when I was using crutches even hen I use only one crutch pain is less. I do all recommended standing exercises 5 times a day. I am off of strong painkillers and use paracetamol in the morning and when I go to sleep. Did anyone else had pain 4 weeks after operation? should I be concern about it? any comments will be very much appreciated. I am 45 years old and it was my first operation and I am kind of freaking out. my meeting with the surgeon in 4 weeks and I don't know whether I should wait until that appointment or book GP appointment?

thank you very much.

Hello....I was not allowed to put weight on my leg for 6 weeks as I had a femoral pinning.... not a total hip replacement. Ever since I have been walking on my leg, I have pain and am still taking pain medicine. I hear it takes time for the pain to go away. I go to outpatient physical therapy now and eventually that is supposed to help the pain.

If you are concerned, make an appointment with the surgeon so he can answer your question....I am sure he will address your concerns.

hi I had my RTHR 5 weeks ago and I'm still using both crutches outside and occasionally 1 inside but I dont feel my legs strong enough yet to do 1 inside all the time. anyway I'm also still taking regular painkillers 4 x a day so I can mobilise as best as I can . if I was you I'd take your pain killers 3- 4 x a day. I know the surgeons prefer you to be pain free ( taking medicines ) and mobile than not. but if uoure concerned check with your GP -assume you're in the uk .

Listen to your body before any one else is my view. We all recover at different rates and I think that some physios try to rush on according to a set plan. When I was out of the house I stuck with the crutches for 5 weeks.

Hi. I had 3 screws put into femoral head nearly four months ago. Walking frame without wheels the first 6 wks then walking frame with wheels until two wks ago. I didnt have hardly any pain at all, until I started using the walking stick while out shopping/ catching buses etc. Mentioned it today to my physio and was told that Im using different muscles now that I didnt use while using the frames. Not using any pain killers as the discomfort subsides after I relax at home. I have been able to walk around the house with no walking aids for around a month now,but certainly not when Im out in public. I did manage to go the horse races @ 5 wks ,I must of been crazy .Ha Ha.
