4 weeks post op and having pain in hip that just feels like arthritis pain. This is most noticeable after a few hours sleep. I have stopped cocodamol and paracetamol doesn't help much. Is this normal at this stage.

    Hi attractac

I am 4 nearly 5 weeks post op was told by my physio that there would be stiffness in my new hip after sleeping and it would take a little of moving around for this to ease.  I sleep on my unoperated side with my knees bent and a pillow between my legs and my ankles resting on the end of the pillow if that makes sense?  The only time I'm thankful that I have short legs but I do have a full length pillow that I use to support my whole side if I feel like rolling over a bit more.  I have pain at night if I've been on my feet a lot and will take a Tramadol if I need it.  I wouldn't worry, you're only 4 weeks in but certainly check with your physio if you're worried.

Not lucky enough to have physio. asked gp to refer me 10/ days ago but nothing yet..Going to take cocodamol tonight. I'm lying down on back now and realising that I'm holding op side slightly off bed so maybe after a few hours of that it would be painful. I also have to keep checking my sitting as I tend to save op side. It is such a learning process and thank heavens for this forum or I'd have been on to hospital a lot more often.

That's not good attractac, we are extremely lucky in Oz to have such good health care obviously although everyone still complains!  It sounds like your wound is closer to your butt than on the side of your hip?  When I was sleeping on my back I would put a pillow under the knee of my operated side and I found that it took the pressure off the hip a bit.  I would definitely follow up with your GP on the Physio front.

I hope things get easier for you. xx

I'm only walking about 1/2 mile with 2 crutches. Did you have posterior cemented.
