Hi. I had mastoid surgery 5 weeks ago and I am still in a lot of pain. All round my ear feels mega sensitive. My ear drum don't feel right, I can feel it all the time. My Dr said that theirs ear wax causing compression and gave olive oil. When I first had the stuffing removed I was feeling the benefit after couple days and now it feels than ever. Any advice would be great. Thank you.

Mastoid surgery is usually painless.  Pain after 5 weeks would be VERY unusual, and one would need to search for another cause of the pain.  As for the "sensitive" feelings you're having, that would be normal, since every incision in the skin interrupts some sensory nerve fibers in the skin, some of which regenerate and some of which do not.  This skin will never have the same sensation as it did before surgery, but your brain will eventually adjust to it and essentially and render it unnoticeable, or at least not bothersome.  As for the wax, most ear doctors remove it if it is causing symptoms.

Thank you so much for getting back. Yes my Dr did try to Hoover the wax out but I couldn't handle the feeling. Got to say the pain does seem to be less today. So hopefully the olive oil making an effect. Thanks again Doc, your advice was helpful and has put my mind at ease.
