Pain after 1 year. Humidity?

Posted , 7 users are following.

i had a total hip replacement almost 1 year ago. Everything was great until last month (10months postop). Now my femur hurts after standing on affected leg after a few minutes. It quickly goes away. My groin hurts as it did before surgery periodically too. But only for a little while.  What's is going on?  Could it be humidity? Overusing?  Or something else?

Hi Molly, these things can hurt for a while and it could be that the remodelling has moved up a pace, have you started doing something that you havent done since?? I would ask you GP or ring consultant if you continue to feel discomfort.

What has been different in your movement? Are you gardening more? Have your torqued your body without thinking? How long has this been going on? Try a good soak in an epsom salts bath. Give it a day or two then if it's still there talk to your ortho. Good luck!

    dear molly,

so sorry to hear this, darling --- such a let down, right ?

How is your other hip ? sometimes after one THR, the other hip will start to act up and might need to be replaced too - when that happens, your "new" hip takes over and that might be a little too much still - or your body will compensate by walking incorrectly again to accomodate declining hip ...

Sometimes there is some  increased pain and stiffness, or can feel changes in the weather after hip surgery. These sensations are  common though, and usually will disappear over 1 to 2 years after surgery. For the first couple years, the bone adapts and grows around the metal prosthesis, and this bone activity probably leads to sensitivity to weather and pressure changes -

maybe you can make an appointment with your OS and have it checked out -

please keep us posted, okay ...

sounds you are doing great otherwise ...

    big warm hug

    Hi Molly,

I'd check with the specialist so they can run some tests.  They may want you to do more physical therapy to rule out muscle weakness.  Some pain in the femur is normal for a while, but it doesn't make sense that you went from being pain free to now being in pain.  Take care and keep us postedsmile
