2 years ago I had the camera down cos I was having indigestion and a feeling of inflammation directly under the breastbone. They found ulcers in my stomach but they said these would not give me any problems. Periodically I get bouts of heartburn . Then before xmas I started to have episodes of my skin itching and a rash. In the end I went to an allergy clinic . They said I was sucrose intolerant but the medics think I am talking through my hat. I am also gluten wheat and lactose intolerant.

    Hi Jenny

You are not alone. I have had exactly the same thing, and am in the very same situation. I had a Colonoscopy 12 months ago and all was fine, hence my normal IBS. I have been very unsettled for over a year (hence my visit to a consultant and Colonscopy), and it has not settled. Some weeks one continuous symptom, other weeks another.

The consultant I saw, that is nationwide recognised advised that I should just relax about the whole situation. Worry and over thinking it will make my symptoms either more pronounced, or seem more pronounced as I am over thinking it. They are normal IBS flare ups, it is just that I am having them more now than I did before. Basically, that is life. It will all calm down given time, but aware it may all flare up. Just try and relax, maybe Yoga etc, and do not think it is anything worse developing. After a normal Colonoscopy, nothing extra will or practically can develop in 12 months. It would take you years to have anything come up, whch is why they recommend a 5 yearly one be done for IBS sufferers. Within that, it is not really possible for anything worse to occur. My fear was a cancer, but within 12 months after a normal Colonoscopy, as my consultant said, there is no known case of a cancer developing that quickly. Anywhere. Ever!

I did go through 3 months of what you describe as a symptom myself (hence I know what you are going through), but again the consultant said it is normal collateral damage of IBS, which will go away and get better with time, not overnight, and just try and relax and not think about it. Do not expect it to go away overnight. He is right, and I am much better now, just another symptom at the moment! C'est la vie!

Don't worry, you are unlucky enough to have IBS, at least the Colonoscopy was done, and it is definitive. Do not let others worry you with worrying stories, the internet is full of them. Unfortunately IBS is IBS!

Stuart thank you so much for your reply it has helped me a lot .... of course my worry is if anything sinister has developed but i have told my gp all the symptoms i am now experiencing and she is confident it is ibs although these are new symptoms to me they are all ibs symptoms! Did you mention Stuart that you have had pain after a bm too

      Hi

Yes I did, collateral damage of IBS I am afraid, so not directly related but just a fall out from it.

Thanks again Stuart i think as you say i have to focus on the fact i have had a clear colonoscopy result 12 months ago and it is unlikely anything nasty can occur within that time :-)

      Hi Jenny

Please do. There is really no chance of anything serious having apperared since then. Put that bit out of your mind. The internet is full of all sorts of scare stories!!

      Hi Jenny,

I have IBS, and its not pleasant. Stuart has spoken brilliantly about it. Doing the fodmap diet has helped, was surprised regarding how veg. And fruit can be having an effect on your bowels.

Stress can as said be a big thing, I now walk most days and really feel better for it. Find something that helps you to relax. Sadly

It's a law unto its self.

Thanks Janet i will look up the fodmap diet.... It's just that i have had these particular symptom for about 4 months solid and it is starting to get me down a bit if i'm honest i have daily pain and pressure/feeling of wanting to go to the toilet all the time it can drive you mad! That's without the bloating (sorry i'm not normally this depressing! lol) it all thyen leads me to start worrying it could be something else but as you said Stuart spoke well and reassured me.... Thanks again for replying i will try and relax more :-)

My gastroenterologist suggested I go on the Fodmap diet but I am restricted enough as I am gluten wheat and lactose intolerant. I have received some books ordered from Amazon. Anyway I will give it a go.

I have IBS with diarrhea. I get the bloating, nausea, abdominal pain, urge to go all the time, but especially after a bowel movement. I usually set a number of how many bowel movements I can tolerate a day, which depends on a lot of factors like if my other illnesses are acting up, how much I've eaten, etc, and then let that many happen, and then start taking Lomotil or Immodium. If I don't do that, I could easily go 60-80 times a day. I usually set the "upper limit" as somewhere between 12-30 times a day, and that in itself is hard enough.

For the bloating and pain, I use a king sized heating pad on my abdomen; chew on ginger gum, or suck on tummy pops (ginger flavored lollipops). All of these things have lessened that feeling for the most part. I also did all of the IBS diet changes, and that's brought it to 9-15 times a day and minimal cramping, so the IBS diet does really help.

It seems we all suffer a lot in different ways with ibs and its a case of tolerating it which is difficult sometimes.... i tend to have ibs c but suffer pain even after a bm cramping etc .... i will def try and change my diet. Thanks for replying :-)
