Hi deloris, when i had mine removed i had a similar pain to where i had before it was removed (just below my right rib) for probably a good few months after it was healing, especially if i turned too quickly, i think it was down to inner scarring/healing (but this sounds very different to what you are describing).

It didn't resolve the ibs issues i'd been having like i hoped it might and when i went back to see the surgeon for a check they tried me on a powder medication which they sometimes use after taking out gallbladders (i think its to mop up the excess bile), I ended up looking for other reasons for my ibs, although they had warned me that would probably be the case as that was not the reason they removed it.

If i were you, I would definitely check this with your surgeon/doctor to be sure whats causing the pain and see if there is anything else they can do to help.

Did you IBS before or after your operative.  I am positive my IBS is due to gallbladder removal.  So far it has been manageable with no medication except probiotics.  At the beginning I did take pepper mint.  My main concern now is I do not know when it will strike and it is not related to food.  Anxious to travel by public transport.  Have to wait for a little while to see what happens after I have eaten.  I do not have diarrhoea or constipation sometimes a bit loose after eating sometimes once a week sometimes longer.  It is such a pain when you do not know when it will happen.  GP told me to take immodium on long journey as a precaution.

I already had it before, I have since found out mine is related to sugar, even the good carbs.  I was told i had bacterial overgrowth syndrome but all my bacteria results seemed normal, although i had to have a lot of antibiotics growing up so its possibly upset the balance, although I don't always find probiotics help.

I have now cut my sugar intake severely low and have it under control but I have chronic fatigue too, so it may be linked to that in someway.

They put me on cholestyramine for a while thinking it may help to bind the bile, but it didn't help as the bile was not the issue with me.  It may well not be appropriate for your case especially if its happening occassionally but it might be worth asking about just in case

I would seriously talk to the surgeon or your doctor, even if it doesnt turn out to be anything too serious there's no point in putting yourself through this when they can probably do something to help

Marie, I will try a shorter version so I don't say anything to get moderated. I already had ibs long before they took my gallbladder out so can't blame it in my case.  I had it most days so I guess thats why they tried me on medication, I think it was so they could assess whether my ibs was continuing from before or was new onset as a reslult of the operation
