Pain after surgery, how long ?

Hi guys, had my bilateral salpingo oophrectomy on Wed, it went well according to surgeon, said she had to do a slightly bigger cut on left side and there was a lot of bleeding, should have biopsy results Mon or Tues, and I know I am only 3 days out from surgery, but I can not stand up straight, walking bent in half, everytime I move I feel like my skin is tearing in half, I just lay here and cry, hospital called and said its normal, and because they cut the abdominal muscles I should take Advil in between the percocet, 95% of pain is from the belly button and on the left side...shouldn't I be feeling better by now? My threshold for pain us usually pretty high, so I'm just wondering if I'm being a big baby

Hi there. Glad to hear your surgery went well and all results were normal. They say you will feel better in 3-4 days but that's not true. I had the saw exact procedure with an increased cut on the left side as we'll. I walked hunched for 3 days and that improved the 4th day. It took another week and a half for me to fully recover and I am still having some minor pain. It will get better soon! My doctor put me on Motrin 800 mg and I was told to take that 3 times a day. It really made a big difference. Maybe try that as opposed to Advil. Good luck with the rest of your recovery!

Denise, did they tell u why the cut on the left was bigger? I didn't think to ask, but now I can't help but wonder. When the Hospital called, she said "I know the Dr says it's an easy surgery, no big deal" but that's a lie, and I totally understand that now

Yes, it was because the cyst had grown since my ultrasound so they had to cut a little more to get it out. No big deal is definitely a lie! Just like when I went initially because of pain and nausea and the nurse practitioner said it "definitely " wasn't bc of the cyst because it was too small. I wanted to cry and give up but I'm glad I didn't because what they thought was just a cyst turned out to be a serous borderline tumor. I have to see an oncologist. I have learned to Always, always, always listen to listen my instincts. It could literally save your life. Doctors do a lot of shrugging off these days. Sigh

Definitely try the Motrin too. It's prescribed as 800 mg but you can get it over the counter too. You are definitely not a big baby 😏 Hang in there! ❀️

Found out from surgeon that I had alot of adhesions on the bowel and they couldn't get to the ovary, the reason for the bigger cut. Said they had to put mesh under the muscle, otherwise everytime I sneezed or coughed I would get a hernia, and I would have pain, pinching, and pulling until the muscle grew around the mesh. 9 days out. Finally left the house, went grocery shopping and a few other things, may have overdone it, started cramping and bleeding, I'm sure that's normal.just feels like I've finally turned the corner, no pain meds in 3 days, just advil for the cramping tonight.

    Hello,

Glad everything went ok. I had the exact same operation nearly 6 weeks ago and I was exactly the same hunched over whilst walking I would say for probably about a week so it does all sound normal. Did you have a vertical or horizontal cut? I had a vertical cut on left side of my belly button (37staple stitches) and had minor aches and pains but they have settled down a lot. My friend had a horizontal cut and she seemed to be on more pain, whether the horizontal cut is going through more muscles which would make it more painful when recovering.

    Take care xx

All 3 cuts are horizontal, I had a laparoscopy over 20 years ago, that cut in my belly button was vertical, that's prob why this one is horizontal, but glad to know I'm not alone in walking bent over, my employer was hoping I'd be back to work 1 week from my surgery date, and I can tell u right now, that's NOT going to happen. Thanks to those who responded.

Oh sorry I had a laparotomy, but this maybe due to your previous op's why it is happening like this. Definitely don't push yourself for work or anything.

Hope you recovery all ok x

Geez I don't think you are big baby I just don't understand why you are in so much pain. I was walking straight away after the surgery, maybe a little slower but not bent over. I took pain meds the first few days and then switched to Tylenol. Β I will say I took the pain meds as prescribed even though I didn't think I needed them. My doctor said to take them that way so the pain never gets out of hand. I had Percocet also. I wish I has some ideas on how to help but my experience was so different. Maybe stronger pain meds for a couple of days?

Try buying an abdominal binder. I have had 2 abdominal surgeries. When they cut the muscles, well to be blunt, IT SUCKS! Yes it's normal it's going to take you several weeks to even start to feel normal. The abdominal binder is elastic and helps support all the mucles you didn't realize your doing in your day to day activities. Get a 4inch one, you'll thank me! I am going Friday to have my left overy removed because it has 3 large cyst on it and everything unattached to my bowel by adhesions. I have already started to stress over the pain because I know what to expect. I got my abdominal binders ready!

    Good Luck!!
