Pain after THR

Posted , 8 users are following.

Hi - this is my first time posting - I have been following with great interest other discussions - it has certainly helped me.  I am 9 weeks post THR and I am 46 years old.  The hip joint feels great and I am walking with no limp. My problem of late is pain at night in my thigh.  It feels like a toothache in my leg. It spreads down to my calf and foot.  Has anyone experienced this?  Many thanks in advance!

    Hi Jess,

I have come to think of these aches and pains my body's signal that muscles, tendons or other connective tissues are tightening up and it would be good to stretch or walk it off.

It is good that you are checking with your doctor (no need to have extra stress/worries after a THR), and I hope that all is okay.

Please let us know how you are doing and what advice your doc may have offered so we can improve our undertaking too.

    Best wishes.

Hi Linda - I went to my specialist yesterday and it seems it is just the muscles and bone adjusting to the implant - hopefully it will disappear soon!!

Ok, hi everyone. Just got done with my 2 week post op check up. All is well, yaay. I asked about the thigh/ bone pain some of us seen to get and was told that because of what we've been thru it's expected. He said to rotate Tylenol with ibuprofen /advice during the day. So, not really much help with the pain, sorry. He was happy that I am almost free of my wallet at 2 weeks though.

I'm so glad I found this forum, it had helped me to understand that the pains I'm having are normal.

Thank you. I'm one that does try to do too much. As I mentioned, my pain is in the tendons when trying to bend my knee up while laying down or liftng My leg up to the Ottoman. I've been very careful and ice it every night. Just hope it goes away, that's the pain i had for 2 years. They also fixed my hips, they were very crooked now they are straight smile

Sounds like nerve pain. While lying down, Try flexing your foot forward (toes up) and down (toes pointed) to gently "floss" the femoral nerve. Also icing the tender spots (feel around until you find them!) might help. I also sometimes use an analgesic rub or roll-on over the tender spots.
