Pain and anti imflamatory - Turmeric

Just had a conversation with a friend who has the same problem as most of us and another friend of hersh as suggested Tumeric as a pain and anti inflamatory help.    Reading it up on a certain search engine there is a lot of info and I think I will give it a try.  Can't do any worse and if it helps all too the good.  Never used or had turmic so on my shopping list.

    How will you use it Hazel?

      There is a recipe to make it with milk, and add sea salt and cocnut oil at the end.   Place it in a jar, keep in the fridge and use it in sauces to stews etc.

      Turmeric Paste

      3 Tbsp. turmeric

      3 cups water

      Bring turmeric and water to a boil. Let it boil until it forms a thick paste. It must boil at least 8 minutes. If necessary, add more water. Once it starts to thicken slightly, you must stir it constantly to prevent scorching. Store in a glass jar (it will stain a plastic storage container) in the fridge.

      This is a pste you can add a teaspoon or more to gravey or any food.  My friends friend  actually has it on toast.

      Curcumin is the main active ingredient in turmeric. It has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a very strong antioxidant.

      So can't be bad for us.

    let us know how you get on must say looking at it im not sure about on toast !but if it works ?

    It's looking like turmeric is well worth a try as an anti-inflamatory. I think that it would be worth buying some new turmeric and maybe keeping it in the fridge. I managed to get some of the root in our local health food coop. But here is a warning and I think that it applies to the powder as well, it is a very strong yellow dye. After I grated the root my fingers were still yellow a week later. So wear gloves! I hope it works for you.

    Hi hazel,  I did try this a couple of years ago.   You have to buy a very pure brand of turmeric, not the one on the supermarket shelf.  Also you have to take quite a lot and it is awful to get down..  I don't think it worked on me,.  I tried it for about two weeks.  Still some people say it works.  Good luck, you never know if you don't give it a go.  As they say.

    I have been taking Turmeric capsules for a few years now & they did help for a while with the pain before surgery.  In the end nothing worked. I take Turmeric & Bromelain 450 mgs. The bromelain helps the absorption & they are made in Canada. I buy mine online & it is also good for your heart. Certainly can't hurt.

    I did a quick search on turmeric and found a site worth looking at, the site is www.examine.com. It is a science based site and most of it was beyond me but it does take a positive approach to turmeric or at least to the active principle, curcumin. Apparently, curcumin is nor well absorbed and is better absorbed and more effective in combination with other supplements or enhancements. If a proprietary curcumin is formulated properly then it should also contain one of these enhancements. There is also a product called Theracumin which is based in curcumin nanoparticles. I think that it is worth looking further for suppliers. They do say that curcumin is well tolerated and that there is no evidence as yet that it is toxic. I hope that you can source the product and that it is an effective treatment for you. Next step is for this post to accepted by the moderator. Good luck.

    Hi Hazel, I use Turmeric powder as an ingredient in curry paste, but it is also sometimes used as an alternative to saffron when colouring and flavouring rice. A pinch gives a light yellow tinge to rice, but I've always used a lot in curries, as I'd heard that it was so good for you. Never imagined having it on toast! Just might give it a try when I run out of marmalade.

      I only have the turmeric in a jar from the supermarket...so will have to visit a health shop.  I did add some to my porrigdge yesterday and this morning before cooking...colour nearly put me off but I did eat it all. Put som in gravy for my dinner last night (hubby did not have this)  and whether its my imagination  , the heat seems to have gone slightly from my knee....could be the 13th week though and things changing..but you never know.  I think the turmeric on toast has to be a paste.redface
