Pain and Stiffness after 10 weeks

Hello fellow Hippies,

I'm just over 10 weeks in and doing ok.  I walk around the house without a cane but still carry it outside for longer walks.  My stride is pretty good for the most part.  My problem is that I get very stiff after fairly short walks.  I have to get up and stretch and hobble around for a little while before I can really walk again.  Along with the stiffness comes some pain but nothing to extreme really but it does remind me that something happened.  I guess I'm wondering if this is normal...what are other peoples experiences after 10 weeks.

Thank you all for your updates. I'm 5 1/2 weeks post op and generally doing very well but do have some stiffness especially when getting up from having been sitting for a while. Glad to hear that this is pretty common as one friend who had the surgery 2 years ago had me concerned. Also something seems to need to go back in place after sitting. I don't know whether it is a tendon, muscle or the hip itself but it isn't painful, more discomfort, but a bit concerning. Seeing doctor next week, will see what he says

Hi...I am just over 10 weeks and although I got off crutches after three weeks I still get a little stiffness after sitting/driving. I am sure that it will eventually recede and you will be back to normal.

I shall post regularly with my progress.

Hi had THR right leg . I'm at day 13 now feeling anxious about the size of my scar when i remove dressing tomorrow. i feel I'm doing well exercises getting easier. but swell around my knee by end of day . Ive been having a few blue days when energy is low . Didn't realise i would be so exhausted.

Hi I'm Linda age 50 . 13 days into THR. I am dreading tomorrow removal of dressing and seeing how big the scar is. Ive had a few blue days due to lack of energy and loss of independence, but getting better with exercises and stronger.

Hi. im 51 and post op THR right hip 13 weeks.

I have experienced many of the fears and challenges described in this forum. I cried the day after my dressing was removed, . today it looks pretty good and im ok with it. Its healing well.

I have regained all independence, minimal pain - usually achey muscles when I over do it.- which is spending all day on my feet, walking a mile on the beach, trying to play 9 holes of golf (short game). I guess thats all pretty good.

I came to the forum becoz I still have stiffness and really dont know if Im where Im supposed to be. I thought I would be ALL better.

Its great to hear everyone going through all of this and I thank you

my stiffness after sitting, I see that it could take awhile. My doctor says 6-12 months and I thought that's ridiculous. I'm young healthy etc,. My PT says you've just had major surgery and trauma to everything, TIME. OK patience -not a virtue of mine, but I must try.

I guess most important- we are all a little different and as long as we are progressing, we are doing well. Our doctors know and our PTs know if something is wrong. Healing vibes out to all of you. thx, laura
