Pain at battery site for Medtronic Model 97715

I had a Medtronic Intellis Model 99715 put into my lumbar region in June, 2018. The system has worked fairly well and has allowed me to get out of bed and start living again. My issue is that the battery was placed in a very shallow pocket and sits just under the skin. It was my understanding that they would make a pocket out of the fatty tissue on my hip area to protect the battery. I have never felt the battery was placed in an adequate pocket.

Unfortunately, I fell and hit my back right over the site of my battery. I have complained about being able to feel my battery very easily from day one; it actually almost sticks out of my hip area. Recently, I have started having very centralized pain and burning around the battery. The rest of my back is fine, but I am having issues with mobility because of the level of pain around the battery.

I have reached out to the Medtronics representative and am waiting to see what her response is. My question is whether anyone else has ever experienced anything like this? If so, where you able to find relief and how?

Thanks for your time in reading this and any feedback you may be able to provide.

Hi. I’m so sorry to hear of your troubles with the battery.

I am currently up to my 4th battery after my first Stim surgery was competed around 7 years ago. The one I had put in just gone two years ago last week has flipped over again but I'm not bothering with Stim Surgeries anymore.

I have had batteries come out of their pockets (mine are placed in my right backside cheek and I cannot sit at all so they don't get hit or bumped etc in there), they then start to turn and flip on their side as the muscle moves, not fun. I have been shocked by one, the same St Judes mini eon that had a recall on it that would get boiling hot when it was being recharged, but I was never advised of this as I live in Australia and my Rep failed to tell me, even though I advised it was heating up. Now this one has flipped as well. I have also had another lead migrate though (within 6 weeks of surgery and I am couch/bed bound so was doing nothing at all) and after that last surgery I am in so much pain spine wise. It feels like razor wire ripping me apart each time I move, and I've never had back issues before that. I had the Stim implanted as I have CRPS. So, I am personally done with them as I cannot risk getting worse than this. I turned mine off completely 3 months ago as it began causing me worse pain having it on at all.

I truly hope yours is an easy fix and a much better experience than mine.

All the very best to you and take care.
