Pain At night

I am now able to sleep on my side 3 1/2 months post second yeh( the first hip replacement side) however I wake after about an hour with excruciating pain in my leg and lower back. It's hard to sit up and walk for about 10 mins then wears off. I have a spondilythesis and therefore I can't lie flat on my back. Has anybody had this or had any solutions?

    Hi Sue,

How long ago did you have the first one done?  I'm now 8 months post FHR and can sleep on that surgical side for a short period of time.  I still can't fall asleep starting on that side though.  Try using lots of pillows in between your knees and under your knees/legs when on your back.  I can't imagine trying to get comfortable without them.

8 months too- actually thatlegis comfortable it's the other one that hurts- excruciatingly- first thing. I will have another go on my back with more pillows- the problem is then I wake with both legs with pins and needles and pain-perhaps I just have to be patient. I'm having a MRI on Tuesday to see what's going on spine wise

Thanks for the suggestion - hopefully we will both be good in a year!

Sue, I can't sleep on my back to due to obstructive sleep apnea. Also I had a compression fracture of a vertebra in my spine between my THR and my gluteal tendon repair surgeries. So I've had an awful time with sleep. I actually have an electric hospital bed, so that whenever I have trouble lying on my side, which still happens occasionally even 5 months out from the second hip surgery, I can lie on my back and easily (electrically with a remote) raise the back of the bed up and the knees up to where I can be fairly comfortable. It's the only thing that has really helped me.

I'm over 12 months post THR & Revision ... and still cannot sleep for too long on either side cry.    I am able to get on either side for a short while, but I'm afraid sleeping on my back has become the norm now.

I think it differs from person to person, some are lucky, some are not.  We all get dealt different cards ? ? ? ?

Hi Sue, I wish I had a sleeping solution.  I'm at 3 months and still sleeping in my reclining chair.  I just purchased a wedge for under my head and a cushion for under my knees and I hope that will allow me to sleep in bed.  I can't lie on my side, it still hurts and my other hip needs replaced and I am unable to lie on that side.  I just can't lay flat on my back. Do you think somethings like that could help you, I ordered them from Bed Bath & Beyond.
