Pain behind my eye when I swallow/sip

For the last few days I have experienced a pain at the rear of my left eye whenever I sip a drink (warm or cold drink). Often, the pain is felt directly behind my eye, but at times it has been felt at the top of the front left side of my head. About 6 months ago I was diagnosed with occipital neuralgia, but I haven't felt much of that pain in the last 4-5 months.

In brief, what causes pain behind my left eye when swallowing a warm or cold drink?
