Pain coming from testicles or hips?

Posted , 7 users are following.

I have this pain but I can't decide whether it comes from my testicles or hips. I have an enlarged prostate and take Doxasosin but I also have mild arthritis in one hip and moderate in the other. Sometimes it feels like a slight squeezing of the testicles but other times it appears to be at the bottom of my pelvis. Does anyone else have anything like this? My doctor is in the hip camp at the moment but I wonder if it could be both,or even a partially blocked urethra.

I've had prostate issues for about a decade. For years my ex uro told me that my prostate was about 40 grams in size based on a DRE. But I had continuous pelvic floor pain for years. I thought it was prostatitis because I felt like my prostate wasn't that large. But one year ago after symptoms started getting worse, I had a trans abdominal ultrasound that estimated a prostate size of 145 grams! I started taking both dutasteride and alfuzosin. The dutasteride is supposed to shrink the prostate and the alfuzosin relaxes prostate muscles and possibly bladder neck (but I'm not sure on that) to make it easier to pee. After about 4 to 6 months, I noticed that I was only occassionally having pelvic floor pain. Now after a year, I rarely have pelvic floor pain. My prostate is now smaller (although still large) and that has apparently eased the pressure. The point of my post is that surgery isn't the only option available. It really depends on your personality. Some guys want to start with the most conservative option (in terms of major side effects) and then move on to surgery. Others don't like being on pills and the sexual performance side effects of those pills (although I'm learning that keeping your sex hormones balanced is important in controlling those side effects).

When you say "my doctor" are you talking about a GP or urologist. If you haven't seen a urologist, you really need to.

I mean my GP didn't think it was coming from my testicles. I saw a urologist about 5 years ago and he didn't want to do anything at that stage. My PSA isn't very high but I can't find the exact number. I'll see the GP about a referral back to a specialist.

    yes...

I have a left hip that is so bad it needs replacing...& at the same time, a PSA that went from 5.5 to 8.8. Going on August 6th for a multi-parametric 3T MRI of the pelvis, to check for prostate cancer...but short of that...my urologist suggested that...it may be the same principal as sciatica...anomaly in the joint placing pressure on a nerve running into the groin (but please also have yourself checked for prostate & testicular cancer)

After prostate surgery I had pain around the scrotum and was prescribed low dose amitriptyline because the urologist believed the pain was really from the bladder.

Long story short: low dose worked a treat!

High doses are used for depression, which I did not have and which low dose would not fix.

Ask your doctor(s) about it and good luck!

Thanks,Barney. I've just started on that but I still feel very tired the day after. I'm told it wears off,so I'll persevere, but I believe you don't see the benefits for a couple of weeks.

Very interesting, I've had some similar experience. Had a UL in 2016 which was successful in relieving my LUTS. Everything seemed to be going well when in the spring of 2018 I began having some dull lower abdominal pain that was intermittent. My uro didn't do anything about the pain until Nov 2018 when a CT Scan showed an area of my bladder wall about 2x2 cm to the right of my bladder neck was thickened. A subsequent biopsy showed no Cx, just inflammation, but still do not know for sure what is causing it. He thinks it is being caused by my median lobe growing into my bladder neck and irritating the bladder tissue.

So zoom ahead to a few weeks ago. The pain started getting worse and became more of a sharp pain sensation than a dull ache and began to become sensitive to movement. This has never felt remotely near my testicles but more like at the bottom of my pelvic floor on the right side. Around the same time my right hip, where I had had some chronic low level pain I assumed due to arthritis (63 y/o) that wasn't very bothersome, became much worse with symptoms a chiropractor, a walk-in clinic doc and my GP thought were due to sciatic nerve compression. This has included pain in most of my right leg and numbness in my right foot when I'm on my feet more than a short while.

Are the two connected? Probably not but that's TBD. I have suspected one of the UL clips (had 5 placed) may be the culprit but that was not evident in the CT scan or the cystoscopy when I had the biopsy taken from the inflamed area of my badder wall.

In any event I'm having a cysto done by one of the docs mentioned on this forum as having an excellent track record with avoiding RE on his BPH patients next week. I'm anxious to see what he says.

I've since seen a different GP and he also thinks the pain is coming from my hip or my back. He examined my prostate and said it didn't feel very big. I'm having an updated PSA test. My test in 2011 was only 0.895 ug/L.Thanks for your input,Russ. That's roughly where my pain is.
