Pain/discomfort under right rib cage.

I have been experiencing this for the last few months, I have been searching the web looking for answers.  I am a 45 year old female, in good health, I take no medications, thin, active, I eat healthy, so I am at a loss. I have this feeling like there is something under my right rib cage as if something is stuck underneath or enlarged. At first I thought I had strained a muscle b/c I had been working out in the yard the day before it started. It doesn't hurt, it just feels like there is something there that shouldn't be but when I touch the area there is no swelling or bulge. After about 3-4 weeks when it wasn't going away I went to see my doctor. They did blood work, urine labs and sent me for an ultrasound of gallbladder, all came back normal. I have no other symptoms like nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, etc. just this feeling like something is there. It seemed to go away on it's own and then came back and has come and gone since sometimes lasting a few days, sometimes a few weeks. When it is back wearing a bra is uncomfortable. Sometimes there is a warmth or burning sensation in the area. The only other symptoms I have had that I think are related are these: A few months before this started I experienced a fluttering sensation, almost like when I was pregnant and the baby moved, in the same location, a couple of times. Since this has started, on 3 or 4 different occasions, I have experienced a charlie horse like spasm in the same area, below the right rib, when bending over from a sitting position. Does anyone have any answers as to what this might be?  Does it sound like IBS? Peptic Ulcer? Hiatal Hernia?

I have had the exact same symptoms for over a week now. I am sitting here with a babies head under my right rib, after a meal my stomach swells up and there is a tightness down my right side. Saw my Doctor who told me to take pain killers and buscopan, but to come back in a couple of weeks if it was no better for blood tests. I am in menopause, have ibs and was a carer who constantly pulled patients up the bed so was interested to read the person who said about chiropractors. Any more info from anyone about this odd condition would be very welcome.

I went to the chiropractor. Are you ready for this. He said my ribs are stiff. Are you kidding Me. They are suppose to be. Chiropractor did nothing.  They also said I have IBS. I also have the stomach bloating after meals.

I first noticed this discomfort when looking after my mother and I thought I had pulled a muscle when lifting her. I too am interested in going down the chiropractor.

    Hello,

I've had pain in my upper left abdominal area (just under my bra line) for a year now. It comes and goes throughout the day,  and I've never had a day pain free. Most of the time it hurts. It seems worse when I bend over. Sometimes I feel it on the right side as well. Sometimes it wraps around to my back. I've had the following tests done, all of which have come back normal.

    Pelvic ultrasound, normal

    CA 125 test, normal

    HIDA scan, normal

    Left quadrant ultrasound, normal

    Two abdominal CT scans, normal

    Endoscopic ultrasound, normal

    Colonoscopy, normal

    MRI of my spine, normal

    Chest X Ray, normal

    EKG, normal

Test for Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth, normal

    Celiac test, normal

    Numerous blood tests, normal

I'm at my whits end. Anyone have any suggestions?

wow sounds like me but mine is on the  right side for two years now.  Went to primary other day for ortho referral but prob won't tell me anything either.  xray of thoracic spine shows some minor bone spurs and some osteopenia and she said prob wouldnt' cause pain.  grrrr.   I read spurs can press on nerves.  Everyone tellsme mRI probably won't show any anything.  I have a gastro followup next month but this doesn't seem related to food intake.  Primary said sometimes they just don't find stuff to explain pain.  WHAT?????

So frustrating!! My dr. Thinks I hurt in too many places at random for it to be serious. Shrugs and says "sorry"! I'm 66 and had heart checked, bloodwork. And all was okay. I have some acid reflux according to him, but it is random also. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia several years ago, and he thinks I have costochondritis. When I ask what I can do, I get another shrug! I had been taking vicodin for several years but he has stopped all opiates to his patients due to the US war on opiates. So I get a "sorry"! I didn't think vicodin helped much until I stopped it!lol Over three months now and I found out what pain was!  Anyway, I wonder if anyone has mentioned costo to you??

My original DR did say Costo but I knew that was a crap diagnosis when he said it. The pain was not in the correct location and the symptoms didn't fit. I switched doctors not long after that and got off narcotic pain meds. My new doctor put me on AMITRIPTYLINE which has worked so much better than anything else for my pain.

I'm thinking i have costo, but when I went to Urgent Care today he wants to check kidney and liver, etc. Did you get a diagnosis?

Hello everyone I was diagnosed with acute inflammation of the liver but the doctor said I am 99% better now... But for almost a month now I go to stool almost 4 times a day and my stool is really watery, I also have a sort of discomfort around the  upper right corner of my tummy around my ribs  and my tummy feels really big most times... Please I want to know if this is normal in recovery or it's something else and I play football is it OK to go back to training with this.. Thank you

Hi, I came across your post and was wondering if you got any answers? I am a 46 year old female with the same feeling. I know it's not my gallbladder because that was removed over 2 years ago. I was recently diagnosed with celiac artery compression syndrome. I had surgery to fix that and felt better for about 3 weeks. Then the feeling under my rib came back. I've had practically every test known to man and they never show anything. I'm wondering if it may be an epigastric hernia. That's my next thing to check. It feels like when I was in the last months of pregnancy and the baby would put their feet under my ribs. That's the only way I can explain it. Hoping for answers.

I've gone over this problem with my primary care physician, GI doc and my endocrinologist with no answers. My primary doc thinks it's all in my head. He asked if I thought it could be some sort of anxiety. Well I suffer from anxiety/panic attacks and this feels nothing like that. He wanted me to try taking lorazepam once a day to see if it helped. Well guess what. Nope didn't help. So no doc it's not anxiety. I've had this issue since May 2017. It's getting to be very frustrating. How can a person continue to live this way? I hate that others suffer with this same problem but I'm glad to know I'm not alone.

Hi, I just got off the phone with my general surgeon that preformed my 2 surgeries last month. I vaguely remember him telling me after the first surgery that he had found a hernia around my stomach and esophagus and that he had repaired it. So for the next 3 weeks I didn't have any of the pain or pressure under my right rib. I thought it was fixed. About 2 days ago the pressure returned just as before, feeling like a baby had their feet underneath my ribs. I called the general surgeon to ask him about the first surgery and if he actually repaired the hernia or just pushed it back in place. They said he "repaired" it. He did say that I have what's called paraesophageal hernia or hiatal hernia. Those most likely could cause the pressure under my rib. He said to give it a few more weeks to see if it resolves and he'll check it when I come in for my next appointment with him. In my opinion whatever he did to repair the hernia did not work and it has returned. I'm not in any pain it's just a lot of pressure and it's very uncomfortable. Just trying to put it out there that maybe you should go to a gastroenterologist and have them do a test for paraesophageal hernia or hiatal hernia. I hope this helps.

no answers here yet either.  Everyone thinks it's muscular/Skeletal.  Finally went to gastro yesterday and had a long talk.  She doesn't think it's gastro but if it was low functioning GB they don't usually remove them anyway
