Pain/discomfort under right rib cage.

I have been experiencing this for the last few months, I have been searching the web looking for answers.  I am a 45 year old female, in good health, I take no medications, thin, active, I eat healthy, so I am at a loss. I have this feeling like there is something under my right rib cage as if something is stuck underneath or enlarged. At first I thought I had strained a muscle b/c I had been working out in the yard the day before it started. It doesn't hurt, it just feels like there is something there that shouldn't be but when I touch the area there is no swelling or bulge. After about 3-4 weeks when it wasn't going away I went to see my doctor. They did blood work, urine labs and sent me for an ultrasound of gallbladder, all came back normal. I have no other symptoms like nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, etc. just this feeling like something is there. It seemed to go away on it's own and then came back and has come and gone since sometimes lasting a few days, sometimes a few weeks. When it is back wearing a bra is uncomfortable. Sometimes there is a warmth or burning sensation in the area. The only other symptoms I have had that I think are related are these: A few months before this started I experienced a fluttering sensation, almost like when I was pregnant and the baby moved, in the same location, a couple of times. Since this has started, on 3 or 4 different occasions, I have experienced a charlie horse like spasm in the same area, below the right rib, when bending over from a sitting position. Does anyone have any answers as to what this might be?  Does it sound like IBS? Peptic Ulcer? Hiatal Hernia?

I watch what I ate and drank ACV and water daily or before bed. I kind of watched my meat intake for a while and sugars, dairies.

that took the side pinch pain away? without scans, doctor thought gastritis and technically diet should help I guess

Ive had two stomach surgeries and have been on reflux medication for over 30 years. the buldging and discomfort under both sides of my upprr abdomen near my ribs is NOT from gastritis.

I do have fatty liver disease and at times i wonder if my liver is so large that there isnt room for it inside my abdomen. Im wondering if its getting hung up under my ribs when i bend or stoop. Just a thought.

awe sorry to hear that. I've had no scan but doctor felt my liver (for what it's worth) and she said it wasn't enlarged. pantoprazole worked after a couple of weeks of taking daily. after a month I tried cutting back, pain came back. I tried cutting back every month after until I got ranitidine again, cut that back now just on tumbs as needed. if I drank too much alcohol it would be back for a day. pain was never sever just concerning.

can't your doctor tell if you have an enlarged liver?

have them check your levels for your liver. mine does it when liver is struggling but blood work said it was fine. it dues it when my irons too low or too high.

I would have them check for vitamin and mineral deficiencies. with your iron have them also check your ferritin levels. insist!!

I had this feeling since my early 20s. I am 48 now.

my whole life miss diagnosed and 6 years ago almost died. took heart doctor to figure out my ferritin levels were deadly low. they thought I was losing blood causing low iron but in reality I wasn't creating blood. reason....I have a gluten allergy and celiac. not knowing this I wasn't absorbing nutrients from food. Iron, B's, D3, magnesium, zinc, vitamin E, etc...deficiencies.

when I did original blood work told them to check everything but they didn't the ferritin. so insist just to be safe.

good luck. please keep me updated if they figure it out. hugs

So something very similar to this bothered me abruptly and lasted for months. I knew it wasn't my gallbladder because the discomfort was not related to food intake and there were no changes in my stool. Additionally my Murphy's sign was negative. What I did notice is that it would sometimes get better if I laid on my stomach. I am a graduate student and am studying all the time, and this really made me wonder if what was bothering me was musculoskeletal and due to a postural problem. When I study on my couch, I always lay on my left side so that my right side is essentially doing a crunch. Additionally, when sitting in a chair at a desk, I always have my right leg up on my chair so that, again, my right side is somewhat crunched. After months of essentially correcting my posture (essentially crunching my left side by how I lay on the couch or sit at a desk, or keeping my body neutral), the pain finally went away. I hope this helps someone. I should note that when this pain started, I was in great shape. Worked out frequently, looked like a college athlete etc Really think I was chronically shortening muscles on my right side by my posture and over time, it become painful in an attempt to tell me body to correct it.

This is exactly what is happening to me for a few weeks now! I also just got results of my blood test and ultrasound and both are normal. Some days its more pronounced and some days I hardly feel anything. It's always under my right ribcage and can feel it on my back too at times. Do you feel that way also?

Doctor prescribed muscle relaxers thinking its only a pulled muscle but they don't work . I still have the pain so she has ordered a CAT Scan

look up Sphincter of Odie dysfunction. I've been dealing with this for over 4 years since I have my gallbladder removed. My GI sent me to MUSC here in Charleston to be evaluated for SOD 4 years ago and he talked to my husband and I for 10 minutes pushed on my belly once or twice and said no I was not a candidate for ERCP It was not SOD. It took me 3 months to get that appointment with him. So for the past 4 years they've tried numerous medications, different diets, you name it I tried it. I've had every test under the sun multiple times. So now he's sending me to Duke University to have them evaluate me for SOD. I hope this helps

I have experiences the same exact thing. I have stressed over what is wrong with me so much that i developed Shingles. I was also diagnoses with am ulcer due to the indigestion and stomach pain. The indigestion is better, however, I still have a tingling and knot feeling under my right ribcage. It flairs up more after drinking alcohol. All if my bloodwork has come back normal too. It weights on ky mind constantly......wish I knew what it was.
