Pain/discomfort under right rib cage.

I have been experiencing this for the last few months, I have been searching the web looking for answers.  I am a 45 year old female, in good health, I take no medications, thin, active, I eat healthy, so I am at a loss. I have this feeling like there is something under my right rib cage as if something is stuck underneath or enlarged. At first I thought I had strained a muscle b/c I had been working out in the yard the day before it started. It doesn't hurt, it just feels like there is something there that shouldn't be but when I touch the area there is no swelling or bulge. After about 3-4 weeks when it wasn't going away I went to see my doctor. They did blood work, urine labs and sent me for an ultrasound of gallbladder, all came back normal. I have no other symptoms like nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, etc. just this feeling like something is there. It seemed to go away on it's own and then came back and has come and gone since sometimes lasting a few days, sometimes a few weeks. When it is back wearing a bra is uncomfortable. Sometimes there is a warmth or burning sensation in the area. The only other symptoms I have had that I think are related are these: A few months before this started I experienced a fluttering sensation, almost like when I was pregnant and the baby moved, in the same location, a couple of times. Since this has started, on 3 or 4 different occasions, I have experienced a charlie horse like spasm in the same area, below the right rib, when bending over from a sitting position. Does anyone have any answers as to what this might be?  Does it sound like IBS? Peptic Ulcer? Hiatal Hernia?

I also have with pain and a knot under my right rib. I started seeing my chiropractor because the doctors couldn't find anything.  Sometimes we hold some anger or pain in our body and it can cause knots around the gallbladder and liver.  So my chiropractor is also an acupuncturist and he releases the knot manually by pressing firmly on the area.  It cause some  anxiety a day or so after because it is also an emotional  release. But the the lump disappears and then I feel so much better.  I hope my experience helps some of you. It has improved my daily life very much.

The pain I feel under right rib is like a pinch, I also feel like a knot there. When straining for BM (I try not to, I have had 2 bouts of diverticulitis), there is a twisty/knotty feeling.

I'm having exactly the same symptoms. I have pressured under my right rib sometimes pain. The discomfort can travel round to my back. I've had a scan earlier in the year for gall stones., which I don't have. They said I have a fatty liver. The nurse scanned everything inc kidneys, womb, ovaries etc no lumps found. I've been on stool softener & senna for months now along with lanzoprazole as I was getting reflux. I'm always bloated, sometimes I get a popping sensation on the right side of my abdomen & all sorts of gurgling noises. I'm going to go back for more tests but was also considering paying for a York Test to see if I have any allergies which could be contributing. Fed up really.

It's sure frustrating isn't it.  I had an ultrasound and everything was normal.  my PT gal thinks it's from my messed up ribs and spine.  Hope you feel better.

Same here, all what everyone is saying. I too have back problem, herniated T5-T6 with bone spur pressing on spinal cord. I wonder if it would cause pain in right rib

Im experiencing the exact same thing! I'm 23, very fit and active. But currently I'm having this throbbing pressure pain under my right rib cage that comes and goes. However, I've been having severe abdominal/pelvic sharp pains for almost a year now. I have been having heavy rectal discharge and the sharp sharp abdominal pains (no stds either) which caused me to get the first MRI, which found I have a liver lesion, of which they can't determine what kind it is, so I have to continue CT scans every 3 months to watch it and see if it grows or changes, however they say that's not the cause of my pain. I then had a papsmear, followed by a colposcopy because then Pap was abnormal, and it indicates I have pre-cervical cancer. And still they say that's not the cause of my pain. I then had a pelvic ultrasound and they found I have polycystic ovarian disease, and still not the cause of my pain. I recently went to the hospital in severe pain and they did another CT which showed I was really constipated and backed up. So I got a colonoscopy last week and she says she thinks it's IBS, but I'm still waiting on the biopsy results.

I also have constant pain on the right side of my neck and right collar bone, where I have two lumps, one in my neck and one above my collar bone, I assumed they were just swollen lymph nodes, but after several months they haven't gone away, and the pain is getting worse. I have an appointment with an EMT in a month to hopefully see what's causing that.

I also had a hydascan to rule out my gallbladder and they said my gallbladder looks fine. At this point I feel like I'm living in constant pain and I have no clue how to make it better.

I've had this discomfort that comes and goes under my right rib cage for about two months, sometimes it radiates to my back. I went to doc last week and took a urine sample with me, she says I have a urine infection and put me on antibiotics, I however disagree because I know what a urine infection is like and have no other symptoms.

I am concerned because I do like to drink wine and feel that the area that is affected is where my liver, pancreas, gall bladder etc are.

I went out for a Thai meal last night, drank wine and this morning the discomfort is back with a vengeance, feels like I've pulled a muscle but I haven't!

Should I be more forceful with my doctor.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Hello

I have a discomfort under my right rib cage that comes and goes,  I've had it for about 2 months, it feels like I've pulled a muscle but I haven't, sometimes I feel it radiating to my back.

Last week I visited my doctor and took a urine sample with me, she says I have a urine infection and has given me antibiotics, I am not convinced as I have experienced urine infections before and I have no other symptoms other than the discomfort under my ribcage, however I shall complete the course of antibioticsas a process of elimination.

I am concerned because I am a wine drinker and the discomfort is in the liver, pancreas and gallbladder area.

Last night I had a Thai meal and drank wine, today it's back with a vengeance.

Do you think I should be more forceful with my GP?

    Any information much appreciated.

      Dear Nasus

I had on going pains and discomfort to my right under ribs pain radiating to back of right shoulder it would come and go especially after eating fatty meals. I had numerous tests for the gallbladder but nothing was found. I asked for it to be removed because I was sure that was the problem and it was found to be infected and the removal solved the problem.

      Thank you for your response.

Question? When you had the pain did it affect which side you slept on? Normally I sleep on my left however

I noticed last night that if I slept on my left side it was very uncomfortable and it woke me up, yet on my right side I slept better!  You'd think it would be the other way round given that the pain is on my right! 🙄

It was ten years or so ago that I had it so my memory is abit faded but I dont recall that. I knew that it was possible my gallbladder after symptomsbon and off for some time and then I had alot of full fat milk one time and ended up with severe pain! I put two and two together and thought it must be related to the gallbladder. Like I said I did get pain which radiated through the right shoulder and general discomfort to the right side just under ribs.
