Pain even when I'm not anxious?

Posted , 10 users are following.

Usually the pain I get in my chest is caused when my anxiety is playing up. Only lately, I get chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness and extremely light headed even when I don't feel anxious. Is this normal? Surely my anxiety can't cause these symptoms when the anxiety itself isn't bothering me at the time?

Yes, everything you described is part of your anxiety disorder regardless if you are feeling anxious or not.

I guess it's just difficult believing that anxiety can cause things that make you think you have a serious health problem. Thanks for your reply.

As you know, anxiety can make you believe anything. I take it you are

suffering from a little health anxiety. What you are experiencing are

random intrusive thoughts, remember they are only thoughts and thoughts

      can't harm you.

I have the same symptoms as you everyday all day and I don't feel anxious either so I'm hoping its anxiety it scares me thinking its my heart

I've had multiple tests done so I sort of feel reassured, but it doesn't help much. I don't know if you've ever been to the hospital because of your symptoms before but if not, it's always worth going. Even if everything comes back clear (Which I'm certain they will!) it may give you peace of mind.

The only reason I'm worried is because my symptoms of kind of changed since I had the tests done so of course I'm convinced that it's something new.

I haven't been to the er but my Dr keeps saying anxiety I'm looking for a new one cause I'm not convinced

Just to be on the safe side, and im not trying to scare you.Perhaps you should see a doctor..we arent doctors and though the chance is probably slim, you could have some heart issue going on. Better to be safe then sorry.

I feel doctors don't take me seriously once they know I suffer with anxiety. I tell them I have chest pain - it's anxiety. I tell them my body isn't breathing automatically - it's anxiety. I've been to my GP three times and the emergency room twice. I've had 2 ECG's, a blood test, a chest X-ray and I've had my oxygen levels taken within those visits and they've all come back clear.

It's getting frustrating that the docs just put everything down to anxiety. One doctor even said she'd never heard of one of my symptoms but the tests are clear so she feels it must be anxiety. Like that reassures me rolleyes

If all the test come back clear ... why are you looking or convinced something is wrong ?  Classic sign of health anxiety or illness phobia.

I know. Honestly I know how stupid it is that I'm convincing myself somethings wrong. But I can't help it. My symptoms have sort of changed since the tests, therefore I make myself thing my heart is failing or I have something terrible wrong with it. It's so stupid when I think about it, but once the anxiety starts there's no stopping it.

It's really not stupid, more irrational than anything. But when anxiety starts, that's when you start flooding your mind with positive thoughts, or any coping skill, rather than let anxiety run wild.

I'm feeling the same way I'm scared something is wrong with my heart as well your not alone and I just wish symptoms would stop it's horrible to deal with all this day in and day out

Keep insisting. It's your body and only you know what you are feeling. Do not give up until they've done every test possible for the heart. Just to clear your mind. God bless ♡

Maybe you should get it checked out.Its probably the anxiety, however none of us are doctors and those symptoms could be heart related.
