Pain every time I have bm

I am either constipated or going to the bathroom 5-6 times in a row with pain. I have been diagnosed with diverticulitis. Last dr. I went to prescribed lactulose to help with hard stools. That resulted in 2 days worth of going & going. Has anyone else experienced this reaction to medicinr??

I have exactly the same...can even be constipated first thing then about 20 mins later whoosh...rushing to the loo up to 9/10 times, always with pain. Then another time I can actually go days without a bm. I went to the docs last week and was given fibogel and buscopan but to be honest I am still the same. I was diagnosed with diverticulosis and IBS after a colonoscopy 6 years ago but didn’t have a flare up until last September, I think it was brought on because I had several operations involving my digestive system, I had my gall bladder removed, a tumour and part of my stomach removed then last year an emergency hernia repair....think my body has had enough!

Maybe you could give fibogel a go or try an antispasmodic like buscopan?

So important not to be constipated! I found if I take it every other day that works for me. If you have diverticulitis now are you on antibiotics? If you do just have liquids for 3 days to give the bowel a rest.

I also  had constipation, fybogel didn't seem to have the desired  effect, so GP gave lactulose, I had terrific pains after taking a couple of doses, had to stop taking it.The GP couldn't understand why  this happened, I could only think it was because I have extensive diverticulosis, which I understand to be diverticula on  left and right of colon. I know other people take lactulose without any problem.

I'm so sorry you're in this "club" ... it's quite a difficult disease to figure out. I'm mostly constipated. When I have taken a "stool softener" ... yes, I get the reverse also - like when I had IBS.

I was diagnosed July 2017 - I've found it to be a guessing game w/ what you can eat and what bothers you.

    Hugs,

    Kerry
