Pain in and around big toe

HI,
2 weeks ago I was playing football and I kicked the studs of another players boot with alot of force.
there was pain directly after this but I played on.
Later that night there was some swelling and light bruising around the joint of my big toe.
for the past 2 weeks there has been a constant dull ache with the occasional sharp pain. This is made worse by walking and running which sends pain the length of my big toe and underneath the big toe where the ball region is. If I try to balance my weight onto the ball of my foot the pain is extreme and my foot gives way. when i am resting the pain is more like a dull ache but constant.
there is currently no bruising or swelling.
any information would be great.
thanks
Callum

Worst.? When i brome my foot there was sooo much bruising and swelli g that i was worried but i was told the swelling is a sign of healing..I dont know. But if you are having this kind of pain still 2 weeks later then i would definately go for an xray and find out if its broken. You could be making it worst by waiting and playing football is probably not helping.I would suggest tryi g to stay off of it as much as possible until you can het an xray..oh and do not believe anyone who says if you can still walk then nothing is broken..that is not the case and is why so many people do not get treated and even make it worst. I hope i was at least a little helpful, and I wish you the best of luck 😊l

Have you ever heard of 'turf toe'? It is something that occurs when you kick your toe hard into the ground - often happening in the course of a football game.
What happens is that your big toe concertinas into the large joint at the base of the toe. I have had surgery for this (not playing football but kicking gumnuts along the road for my dog to chase) where they fused the joint and pinned it. I also had advanced arthritis.
My advice would be to go to a good podiatrist and then, if necessary, an orthopaedic surgeon. They are able to neaten up and reshape the joint to make the toe 'fit' again. You will probably have constant pain if you do nothing. My podiatrist made an orthotic with a toe splint and this kept me on my feet for several years before I finally had surgery. However, I left the surgery until a bit late and hence the fusion as opposed to the joint clean-up and preservation.
I wish you all the best and hope you are back on the football field in no time.
