Pain in arm from falling backwards

Yesterday I fell over backwards in my garden. I put my right arm out beside/behind me to stop me hitting my head on the floor and afterwards I didn't feel too bad except for a painful bottom! However, yesterday evening my right arm (from top of arm to wrist) started aching terribly and I had to have co-codamol tablets in order to ease it when I went to bed. Today I didn't feel too bad but as the day has worn on, the aching has returned, but mainly in the upper arm. There are no bruises but feeling along my upper arm, which feels warm compared to the other arm, I can feel that the whole upper arm when touched is strained or sprained. (I don't think that anything is broken as I can use the arm.) Should I just give it time to revert to normal or should I see a doctor? I am 70 years old and have arthritis (both osteo and rheumatoid).

If you are still feeling the same with no improvement then do get checked out, either by your doctor or A/E. Taking into account your age and arthritis, you are right to be concerned. Better to have a proper diagnosis than to let an injury heal incorrectly and cause problems later on in life.
