Pain in fifth week

Posted , 9 users are following.

I am 6 weeks today, TRHR anterior approach. From day one I had zero pain and never had to take pain meds, only Tylenol. Stopped using walker the first week & stopped using cane by 3rd week.

By week five I started having knee pain, primarily in knee cap but also outer side & calf plus severe pain & stiffness in hip when getting up from a sitting position. Going into my 6th week, that pain is just as bad as pre-op.  To say I'm disheartened is an understatement!

I'm wondering if the PT exercises are causing the pain? I do them every day 2x a day. I'm wondering if just walking and riding stationary bike is enough exercise to strengthen those muscles and forget the ones the PT gave me??

Anyone else experience pain weeks after op?

Thank you, Betty

I'm 7 weeks RTHR with knee pain. Doctor said it's the hip muscle that's connected to the knee is why the pain. Once hip muscle gets better so will knee. I go back to doctor's on Dec 1 for knee xrays. Praying that's all it is. I know l would walk my much better if not for knee pain.

      Thanks for that Bonita

That's encouraging to hear. I also have an appointment this week with my surgeon as he wants to take x-rays of my hip ( which is 7 weeks this week since THR) and I plan to ask to have x-rays of my knee taken as well, just for reassurance!

I also plan to ask about the pain & stiffness when getting up from a

sitting position and hope he says that's normal at this stage as well. I would not be concerned or complaining about it if I had pain from the get go, however I was literally pain free for the first 4 weeks, so it was disheartening to start having the knee, hip & groin pain, especially when I've been so dedicated with the exercises.

Good luck to you and let us know how you are doing and if your knee pain subsides!
