Pain in front of thigh 4 months post THR

Hopefully someone can give advice.  I'm 71 years old and was quite healthy beforehand.  Up until about three weeks ago I was recovering well from my surgery in mid April.  I am now abroad with my husband looking after my  three grandchildren (twin girls of 9 and nearly 5 year old boy) .  I'm finding it more and more difficult to stand up from sitting as the pain in the front of my thigh makes it so difficult.  It takes a while to start walking as I'm so stiff and sleeping is now becoming uncomfortable.  Once up and walking I'm not too bad but I get extremely tired.  My husband is coping well, particularly as they're his step grandchildren, but I feel so useless as it hurts to do almost everything.  I'm back on paracetamol quite regularly now.  Why am I getting worse?  I'm sure it's not the children so would welcome any suggestions.  My daughter and her husband arrive in 48 hours so we'll hopefully be doing a bit less but have 2 more weeks with them all.

    hi pippy,

You are doing great ! seriously - looking after young chidren is challenging to say it mildly, even for people who did not have a hip replacement surgery -

Any type of major orthopedic surgery causes disruption to the rest of your body. In all likelihood, whatever your body has been doing to compensate for your hip pain or malfunction has also been causing problems all on its own.

It is definitely to your advantage that you were fit and in good shape prior the surgery -

However a great deal of the recovery takes place in the first two months, but complete return to normal takes longer. Bone. a living tissue,  around the metal parts keeps changing and remodeling for 1 to 2 years after surgery, which is why you can feel discomfort, stiffness and  aches at times -

you are not getting worse - as a matter of fact, you are getting better -

as said before, try not to compare your self with others and stop being so hard on your self - or feel guilty, darling --

your body is doing a wonderful job - recovering from a major invasive surgere, repairing the damages as well as getting her energy back up --- healing takes a lot of energy , physically, ically, mentally and emotionally -

you do not need to prove anything to anybody, not even to your self ..

ENjoy the coming two weeks with your family ... I don't know where you are but hope that you have great weather ...

big warm hug and come back here anytime

    renee
