pain in groin area 5 years after thr.

I have been back to my doctor and had an xray he said all is fine.  I am having pain in the tendon in front of my groin and it hurts so bad that I can't walk sometime.  Has anyone experienced this?

This sounds like the pain I have been suffering from for 15 years, which has developed into the reason I need my thr. Through lots of research I have found out that if there is a reason your pelvis might become unstable ( say a hip replacement perhaps) your body will naturaly compensate for the trauma. This means the muscles in your pelvis will become unbalanced and cause pain in the muscles themselves or the bones on one side. Try googling osteitis pubis, it is described as a sports injury but us mere mortals can develop it too. The most important thing to do is practice an appropriate set of physio exercises to get both sides of muscles working together again, rather than against each other.

The muscles that are first affected are the adductor muscles. A good way to test this is to lie on your side, knees bent and slowly lift your knee while keeping your feet together. If you feel pain on the inner most part of your groin its the adductors, and you have your diagnosis.

Rather than seeing a doctor I would advise going straight to a physio ( a private sports physio if you are able) and they can start building your inner core strength asap. The longer you leave it and hide it with pain killers the worse it may get, saying from experience.

Whoops, sorry for the rant! This issue is the whole reason im in this mess so its quite close to home.

Groin pain is quite common after THR, although 5 years later means it may have nothing to do with the surgery. There are many possible reasons for groin pain, and if you google it, you will see them all! Many times it is due to a soft-tissue injury of some kind. A good orthopedist should be able to diagnose whatever is wrong by doing a physical exam, seeing what you body can and cannot do, and possibly doing some scans, such as ultrasound or MRI. X-Rays cannot tell you anything about soft-tissue injuries. If the pain has just started, they'd probably want you to rest, ice, elevate and use nsaids for awhile to see if it gets better first.

I had my op after breaking my hip in an accident. Didn't realise it was broken for a few days, so didn't get it checked out right away. I have consistently had groin pain from the time of the accident until now, almost 5 months after the op. There's no improvement whatsoever with that, so I suspect it could be an separate injury overlooked when they dealt with the broken hip. If it continues, I'll raise it at my next hospital appointment in late May...

Yes I have, after an MRI was ordered, we discovered that a cyst and fluid was surrounding my hip joint. My Dr went in and removed it all in January and it is back to about the same amount and it is only April. Going back into hospital next month for aspiration of fluid, cultures and specimens to sendout for testing. Looking to see if infection is causing it.
