Pain in groin when sitting

Posted , 8 users are following.

I had a left hip replacement June 2015 last yr.  I have a problem, not sure when it started of when I sit I start to get a pain in my groin that also gives a throbbing pain on outside of knee & into right side of foot.  It also hurts when sitting in the car for very long.  Wondering what is going on?  maybe a chair cushion would help? anyone have any suggestions on a good chair cushion?  Does  anyone else have this problem?  would it help to go back to doing my hip exercises? Had 1 yr. checkup in June & exrays looked good.

Can u ask your doctor /ot to give you a cushion to try. I have groin pain knee pain and pain in my big toe. I think it's all the muscles pulling one way or the other. I'd try exercising aggain, see if it helps.

    Hope it gets better soon

    Hi Catina,

This must be disappointing and frustrating - I bet you thought this would all be behind you by now.

I am at 5 months and get these symptoms - esp if I haven't been doing my exercises or if i have had a bit of binge tv watch. ??

I would try going back yto yor exercises but if any sharp pain develops - I would see my doctor/surgeon post haste.

Did your surgeon react to these symptoms at all ? Or ... could it be that like many of us, the appointment got rushed and you did not mention it.

It could all be muscles and other connective tissues still readjusting, but if it continues for much longer, get advice from your doc.

Big hugs and sympathy. Time to put all this behind you.

Yes, I mentioned it to him but he kindof brushed it off & said that the new hip likes to be exercised & not sit in one place too long.  But if I go on a car ride for 30 min. or so it starts to hurt, that is not good.  How are you supposed to take a vacation & have to ride for any length of time like that?  I think that I will go back to doing the rehab ex. again, maybe they will help.

      Thanks!

    hi catania,

So sorry to hear this ...

How is your other hip? is there anything you are doing differently  ?

I never realized how the hip muscles, tendons etc. are connected to so many other part in my body -

after the surgery it is somuch about the exercises, learning to walk (correctly)

again - many times I go in to over-correcting mode and screw up, so to speak -

thinking before every step I take - so tiring - instead of being relaxed my body is rigid and I just know that there will be discomfort, stiffness etc.

What kind of car seat do you have ? maybe a cushion will help ? I use a regular one, nothing special --

let us know how you are getting on ...

oh and do go back to doing hip exercises -

    big warm hug

I have not suffered the groin pains that you (and many others) describe, but I do find that my hip reacts differently to different chairs at work - any that have the slightest raised part at the sides seem to be more uncomfortable - a flat cushion is best for me.

Our car seat also has 'wings' which are great for holding the driver secure, but annoyed my hip scar area.  I now have a small narrow cushion that 'fills in' the dip between the sides.

Hi I had the groin pain at about 3 months post op. It was severe and I couldn't straighten up. I was sent for an X-ray and everything was fine with my hip. I think it was because I had been doing a bit of gardening. I am now 6 months post op and fingers crossed it hasn't happened again.i try not to overdo things.

Because you are over 12 months post op I would have thought things would have settled down by now. The only suggestion I can give is seek medical advice. I hope you have more success than me on this problem because I am still trying to sort out my problem with the foot.  After various opinions from doctors, physio, chiropractor and podiatry I am going to see an orthopaedic consultant tomorrow. Keep in touch and let us know if you get any satisfaction.
