Pain in hips

I am coming up to 5 weeks post op bilateral THR, I have been using crutches and in the home try to walk unaided but this does cause some pain.  I am starting physio next week and will discuss as hoping nothing has gone wrong.

Has anyone else had pain in the shin bones,  I have and it even hurts to touch known as Shin splints.. but why... also have bad pain in one of my ankles but I tore all the ligaments in this 16 yrs ago do you think all the swelling may have done something.

My daughters are coming home this weekend and are expecting to see me walking...I am disappointed at lack of movement. have been doing my exercises and walking each day....

At 5 weeks it is still early days. Without sounding rude you need to remember that he/she hasnt performed a magic trick on you. He/she performed a very large surgery and it isnt just "poof the pain is gone" it is going to be a long journey and yes it will be painful, it all depends on the person.

Some people are fine within weeks. Others are not. Im not sure about the shin pain but i did and still do get pain in my ankles, stay strong

I am almost four weeks. I've been babying myself. After I do some walking, I rest. I do ice and Tylenol. I do feel that pain in my shin or thigh once in a while and when I do, I'm icing and/or resting usually with a pillow under my knee. Don't rush. Everyone is different I'm told.

It takes time to recover from major sugery, and for the bones to grow enough to stabalize the implant components.  It's only been5 weeks. Give it another week you will be walking. Keep up the exercises very important to do them getting strong to support the hip and leg.

its painful and miserable for a short time in comparison to the many years you will have dancing in the streets for years to come once heeling is complete.

you will have your mobility and independence soon. Take advantage of this time with your daughters and let them know you need their help for a short time. We all have those moments to share with our children and it's important that everyone understands how help is only temporary.

peace & heeling blessings sends your way .

    hi elaine,

how long have you been full weight bearing?

walking, or even trying to walk unaided at 5 weeks post-op bilateral hip surgery seems awfully early --

have you had your follow up appointment yet?  No wonder you are hurting - you had major surgery that involved dislocating both hip joints-

I was not allowed to walk unaided until 6 weeks post-op and that was with one hip -

your body is so out of balance, sweetheart -- seriously - she needs all the support you can give her -

not sure what to tell you - maybe use your crutches until you have seen your physical therapist ? and don't worry about your daughters' expectations ....

take good care of your self

    big warm hug

    renee

thank you, I see my physio on Monday 1st appt, and consultant on the 30th...

I am in no rush to walk unaided as I have trouble with my knees which will be replaced once I am over the hips.

Hi Elaine, just take it steadily. I used my crutches until I went for my 6 week physio. Now I'm 8 weeks, and walking mostly normally. Keep doing your exercises, and good luck.

Thank you, I was getting worried that I was not doing at all well... now I realise that time is a factor and there is a lot of healing to be done.

Hey-slow down....!!! Please please don't live by others expectations. Our bodies are highly individual and just because others are doing half marathons at 6mths doesn't mean YOU have to! Better to go surely and slowly and build a firm muscle foundation for the future. Best wishes and enjoy your family helping out! X

Thank you... I forgot to take my pain meds last nights so suffering this morning... stiffness and pain in my feet!!   I am currently sitting with them in cold water to ease the pain.

I am in no rush to get rid of my life lines (crutches) as they are my rock...

Sat in driving seat yesterday and did a small bit of driving felt good, but not ready yet to take on a proper drive especially in the rain.

Start physio on Monday so hopefully they will give me some more encouragement and I can speak to them about the pains in my shines and ankles.

5 weeks is nothing really is it for what our bodies have been put through... I am looking at 5 months recovery and less in a bonus.

Rain is what it takes to renew the garden and our hips . Resting is good fot all of us hippies from day one to years later. Bending can be best remembered to stay away from for ASAP.
